So a non-status flyer using a 1K’s PP would be listed lower than the “Silver with PP” in the scenario I described?

I have been getting this error when trying at add PP both via the app and web, but calling the 1k desk the agent is able to add PP without issue. Thoughts?

My guess is that the reservation may be out of sync. I saw the same message a few days ago, trying to apply PP to a friend’s reservation. She got a CPU that morning. And I tried it (for other segments) for more than one day without any success. But eventually, I did not need to call 1K line.

Posted in another thread, but I think this is the better thread
Thoughts on best strategy for the following scenario: - Transcon trip with wife in September (80 points requested - roundtrip) - Have an international trip in October (160 points requested - roundtrip) - Have an international trip in December (320 points requested - roundtrip) The trip in December has the following: - Return leg for myself has cleared into Polaris (80 points) - Rest of the 3 legs are cleared into Premium Plus (did not realize this would take out 80 points each) - theoretically 180 points could be refunded I have 0 points left due to all the points taken out of my account. Am I able to cancel the waitlist for Polaris to get refunded the points to see if any of the earlier trips clear? |
Two things:
- points are not deducted until upgraded flight is flown. “Requested” does not remove from your account. - on the intl flights, did you check the incremental cost of buying up to a W fare? If reasonable, this would reduce your PP burden by half on both flights. |

If reasonable, this would reduce your PP burden by half on both flights. The current cost of W is $2130 per person and I originally paid $930 for K class. I'm not making 1K so I don't think I could extend the expiration of the PlusPoints so I'd rather get rid of them however I can |

Have heard no data points if you can cancel the Polaris request and keep the PremPlus but would call to do this. |
If you only want business (and not PP), you can request that. Not sure if it can be done once premium economy has cleared?

When you apply PlusPoints to a journey, whenever any segment of your trip clears, the total possible number of PlusPoints that might be required for the most expensive upgrade on that trip are deducted. In this case, OP applied for Premium Plus and Polaris. When Premium Plus clears, the number of points required for Polaris is automatically deducted. The intent is to keep people from putting themselves into a situation where they upgrade a ton of low-point flights and then run out of points for the upgrades they really want. If Polaris does not clear, the excess points will be refunded. OP: While you could always call and ask if you can withdraw just the Polaris upgrades, there's no guarantee that you'd be able to reapply them at 60 points each later if your intervening upgrades don't clear. Under the rules, your best bet is to cancel your existing trip and purchase a new ticket. That will result in the points being refunded. Then you can go back and request upgrades either (a) when you know how many flights will clear or (b) for Polaris only. Of course, if the fare has gone up in the meantime, this option could be expensive. |

This is absolutely untrue.

It sounds like those wishing to use Plus Points do well to monitor their reservations regularly.

Ahh crap, huge mistake on my part. One of the legs was $400 for Premium Plus. I should've just paid for that and then requested the upgrade. I guess I'll have to try and book something in Jan if things don't end up clearing

As many stated above they do pull your PPs immediately when you place them for an upgrade but the good news bads news is you get them back right away when they don't clear

PlusPoints are in one of three catagories
Used Available Requested if you waitlist, Requested is increased but neither Used or Available change If some or all of your waitlist clears, your Used increases (by the max need for the trip), Available decreases If after a trip is finished and only some of the Used PlusPoints were needed, the "unused" will be refund and Avialble will increase and Used will decrease UA displays Available & Requested |
