where does it say that? I routinely do not get 54 PQF and I always get the extra +Ps. In fact it is specifically stated that anything beyond $18k counts once you hit 1K.

From UA

United is the only U.S. global airline that allows you to earn unlimited extra upgrade points after reaching the highest published status level. To align with travel returning to normal levels, Premier 1K members will earn incremental PlusPoints for every 3,000 PQP earned beyond 18,000 PQP (starting at 21,000 PQP) once they have met the published Premier 1K requirements in 2023.

While the PQP only requirement for 1K is 24K, the above appears to earned the extra PlusPoints for having done 21K and 24K once you qualify for 1K

If you don't hit 54 PQF, how many PP would you qualify for 1K at 24K PQP?

Quick - and probably dumb question. Been a 1k for the last few years but never really paid attention to PPs.

Trying to book a weekend getaway w/ my wife. Normally we'll fly first or premium plus depending on which makes the most sense. W/ 1K i should be able to upgrade to premium plus at booking.

If I look up the flights using the Plus Points search, it does not allow me to book premium plus seats (unless I pay the $70/seat). If I search without using PPs, I can select any select whatever seats I want (less F cabin).

My guess is this as to do w/ fare class. If this is a "no duh" revelation, thanks in advance.

Do you mean Economy Plus, not Premium Plus?

Premiers being charged for E+ has been a problem, off-and-on, for a few months now.

There's no need to use the PlusPoints search. Book whatever flights you want, then go into the reservation and apply your PlusPoints.

Yes, thank you - economy plus. It wants to bill me for the seat as if I wasn't a 1k. Normally when booking non PP awards, it just lets me select the seats.

Right. And if you didn't select a seat, it would probably go in and let you pick one for free later. Regardless, if you're not having an issue with the regular search interface, just do that. There's no advantage to using PlusPoints search unless you're planning to us Skip the Waitlist (on routes where it's available -- long-haul South America, 30+ days in advance, seem to be the only ones), in which case you wouldn't have an E+ seat anyway. :)

Consolidated UA PlusPoints Question & Answer Thread

Hi all, first "post-Covid" post so forgive me if this has been answered already. I just tried to use PlusPoints for an economy-Polaris upgrade and was asked to pay an extra $70 or so airport tax in order to waitlist (the explanation being that Polaris tickets incur that extra tax). I don't remember this being done pre-Covid. Is this a new "benefit" for PlusPoints usage? Is it a mistake? Any way to avoid it? It was for a CDG-EWR flight if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

CDG and LHR impose an additional tax on travelers departing in a premium cabin, but UA has always charged taxes that are the passenger's responsibility, even when using instruments. Most likely you don't remember it if you either didn't upgrade departing CDG/LHR or were already in premium economy cabin and were upgrading from there (in which case the tax was already paid as part of being in premium economy).

Can you apply Plus Points on NZ?

What is a good Premium Economy fare for SFO-AKL?

I'm looking at mid to end of November for SFO-AKL and the NZ fares are lower than the UA flight on the same nonstop route.

And the Premium Econ is approximately 3X the Economy fare of the NZ flight and just under 2X of the UA flight. (I would think NZ has the better soft product?)

Mind you this is suppose to be a New Zealand sale through end of November.

Speaking of sales to New Zealand...have you seen this that seems to have just started today? https://www.united.com/en-us/new-zealand-sale

No; PlusPoints can be used on UA, NH, LH, and CM only.

I believe it's the same sale. UA and NZ operate a JV on those routes. The fare should be the same on either carrier, but there may be differences due to inventory.

PP expires 1/31/2023

Booked a ticket one way

1/31 BOS-SFO
2/1 SFO-NRT

The layover at SFO is 20 hours.

It appears that I can use 40 PP to upgrade the whole trip, even though PP should expire on 2/1 for the second segment SFO-NRT flight.

Anyone has any thoughts?

If you got the points, spend the points.

ETA: Which ever PPs are available at the time of the upgrade, UA's systems will extract. So, if your upgrade doesn't happen until 02/01/23, they'll pull what other PPs are there (or not which would mean no SFO-NRT upgrade).

David
