The max you would be charged on this trip is 40 points. If the over water segment did not clear, but one or more of the domestic segments cleared, you would be charged 20 points.

Digging through the website and all the pages here I am still feeling this is a huge downgrade for me. Hopefully someone can convince me I am wrong in the following scenario:
Today I use GPUs to upgrade various multi segments: I fly AMS-ORD-DEN-DRO frequently. In the past I used one GPU to upgrade this itinerary. Usually as GS I could clear all upgrades upon booking. Rarely did the domestic segments not clear upon booking. In the new PlusPoints system, am I right that to upgrade the above itinerary I would need 40 points for the AMS-ORD, 20 points for the ORD-DEN and another 20 for the DEN-DRO which total 80 points? If this is true, then this would be the equivalent of using two GPUs? If this is true, this might just be the last straw. UA Insider: if true can you please explain how this is an enhancement for me? However, there is one downgrade: If you apply 40 points for the entire itinerary, and AMS-ORD does not clear, you would still be charged 20 points if either ORD-DEN or DEN-ORO does. |
UA Insider , does a 3MM who doesn’t otherwise qualify for annual status get 280 or 320 plus points at the start of the new year?

UA could then offer an additional enticement for high tier premier members (e.g. Plats and above) the ability to earn additional PlusPoints based on spend. There is a lot of excitement in this thread, but IMO, unless United changes their upgrade inventory (which no one seems to believe will happen), I can imagine PlusPoints soon being referred to as MinusPoints here on this forum. |
Thanks! I am a little less nervous now

I have not read the details yet but do any one knows if current RPU or GPU will be converted into points I have like 50 Regionals and 55 globals ?

While UA's ability to explain issues is legendary, and UA has made the cancellation feature more complicated with the new features like StW. But no refund on full cancellations is very inconsistent with other UA practices as affirmed by UA Insider.
Unfortunately, UA has built a reservoir of distrust and expectation that things always change for the worst. So I will just assume that the points will behave the same as current instruments for now and see what happens when all this goes into effect. I'll assume that any change or cancellation, you will get points returned even for SkipWait. (I am not too concerned about SkipWait right now as I don't plan to use it anytime soon) As for calling in and to remove a cleared upgrade, I assume this will be a YMMV situation as is always when talking to UA. This is also something I rarely did. Unless UA Insider chimes in and clarifies, no one will really know until someone tries. Also, the expectation that things are always changing for the worst is because they usually are. |

Or as I see it in the future, make <1,000 miles flight upgrades with 20 points, >1,000 with 30 points, and international 50+ points, and spin it as an "enhancement" and "more choices"

The thing that I was most excited about, Skip the Waitlist, I think will also be my biggest disappointment once we find out what “time to time” really means. That, or it will cost so many points it’ll be better to just buy J.
I hope I’m wrong. |

I think you will be surprised at how often you see it. I think this is one of the primary features that UA is going to be Beta'ing. If they can create more of an auction system for UGs that would be a big benefit for them in maximizing Polaris "revenue". I don't think it "makes sense to buy J" if your alternative is buying an economy fare no matter how many points it takes.
