This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

Going the cheap route on catering is one way they beat the profit estimates today.
To Kirby, every pat of butter not served goes right to the bottom line.

that's the end result of a culture where you're not even really in the business of making money so much as you are juicing stock prices

Could not agree with you more. What is it, almost 5 months on domestic flights except trans cons, that the choice is Impossible meatball or Chicken Zatar. On International it runs from just okay to horrible. Polaris service is a joke. On my next trip to Zurich in November (non business trip) I used my miles for the trip. I do like their hard product, but at least I can say the price of my ticket now justifies the soft product they are most likely going to serve.

Or more specifically, your own personal cash bonus.

SFO-PHX last evening in F, no food at all. One beverage, never offered a refill. Not greeted by FAs, and of course no 1K recognition. Add to that, this was an ex-CO 739, with seats that date back to original aircraft delivery in 2009. No cushion left at all, you're basically sitting right on the frame; it was the most uncomfortable seat I've experienced in some time. My immediate reaction is that I've booked my next two flights on AS and WN, despite significantly higher fares on both.

I will happily forego the butter if it means UA will continue the destinations and frequencies I value.

Experienced something similar on the 752 last month. J seat was in horrible shape overall. When taking the tray table out, the entire center console almost came apart.

Those seats date to the same era. They were pretty nice back in 2011.

When, O when, will the dreaded breakfast burger be removed from TATL? (The couscous alternative is not too bad). The burger is rock hard and totally inedible. Even the flight crew are ashamed to serve it, which says something. (My wife was unwise enough to opt for it last week. I did warn her..... She and a number of others returned their plates untouched. No alternative was offered.)

Will United ever go back to real business-class (pre-covid) meal service with separately served starters, mains, and real ice cream sundaes?

Flying EWR-NAP over the summer, my wife had the breakfast burger as we were heading straight to the coast from the airport. As we past Sorrento and began weaving along the water, her face was legitimately green.

I am so torn with UA these days.....The Polaris hard product is a perectly fine way to spend an evening where sleep is A1 priority, but the food is often inedible. There's zero reason for us to book J seats on a return flight during the day, when PE on many other carriers offers a better experience and service.

In all fairness -- we've done that drive -- and the one to Positano... Without Dramimine my wife would be green too -- regardless of what UA food was offered

Just boarded UA 1193 from IAD-IAH. Paid for an upgrade and then discovered this when arriving at my seat. Should have stayed in Economy. Keep it classy United.

Are they still handing out those industrial strength wipes? That would remove it (and a few layers of seat and skin)
