This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

Add in 40 minutes for boarding, 20 minutes for taxiing out, 10 minutes for taxiing in, and it's 2 hours.

And yes, it is "disturbing" that some employees don't think they have to do their jobs - and that United allows them to get away with such behavior.

I boarded at 6am - left gate at 6:11 - at the gate at LAX at 7:24, not even close to 2 hours.

Doesn't make it right that lazy flight attendants don't do their jobs.

They made multiple proactive announcements no service would be on the flight - for all I know they have that discretion and hence did their jobs - it is odd, at least to me they can make those announcements if they don't have that discretion. If a directive exists to do service regardless of the circumstances - I'd be curious to see it.

yes it’s disturbing even on its own

but more so in a “what’s next” perspective

WN serves 120+ people a drink on 45min ”wheels up” flights on the regular. At a minimum serve 8-10 people in F

When WN installs F - and is in the same terminal as my UA connecting flight - and bags are interlined - I'll give them serious consideration.

I have no LUV for WN but they are a very fair compare since they overlap a ton with UA/UX routes.

I actually agree with you - fair to compare - but besides the points I already raised - no E+, no seat assignments, no meals on long haul routes, and zero clubs just make it a non-starter to even put it on my consideration list - so for me personally - I can forgo a drink and instead on this particular flight used the UA club to the very last possible minute (which surprised me with a fresh cooked egg station and not Jimmy Dean sandwiches) and I consider the big picture.

That's great - you got lucky. Boarding started at 5:37, with a scheduled arrival time of 7:39. That's 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Hmm, someone should have told that to the crew on my 45-min "wheels up" WN flight this morning. Upon departure they announced no beverage service due to the short duration of the flight and just chilled out in the jumpseats until it was time for final safety checks before landing. When boarding, the guy in front of me asked the F/A at the door if he could get a cup of coffee after takeoff and she literally said, "Don't count on it."

And it was pretty empty. I don't know the exact passenger count, but I had a row of three seats to myself, which is exceedingly rare these days.

I have taken that particular flight quite a bit last year (LAS-LAX-EWR) - there should be at least a mini water bottle, with a snack basket for F pax.

Not rare for January flying. I flew SFO to EWR on a 772 last week - less than 40% occupancy - tons of poor man's business class rows in economy.

Now that I've looked at this further, at least reading the WN forum and the website, LAS-LAX would not qualify for drink service on WN as the flight is not over 250 miles.

From the WN website bolding mine: We are serving a selection of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks on flights over 250 miles, when available.

LAS-LAX is 236 miles.

It’s spelled out by WN to all customers that drinks are served on 250+ mile flights. Not sure what explains your single anecdote. Maybe sub-250 mile flight?

And to be clear I prefer to be on UA aircraft with UA crew every day and multiple times on Sunday. But they can and should do better.

Serving 120+ on a 236 mile flight is tight logistics.

serving 10 (who bought or UG to F) OTOH….

it all depends on your FA. I flew IAD-EWR in a 12 seater F Embraer last week and the FA hustled around to get everyone the drink of their choice. I simply went with sparkling water to make his life easier but there were others asking for wine and stuff and he went through the trouble of opening the bottles and making the pours himself. Quite possible in any situation given the right mindset by any FA.
