This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

I see seniority violations unless UA paid the regular crewmembers to stay home or staffed the flight above and beyond the normal crew, which seems unlikely. Finally, F/As wouldn't be working a flight to then have to go to a meeting during their layover. If they were actual supervisors going to a meeting they would be NRPS-ing (Non-Revenue Positive Space) as passengers.

I don't mean any disrespect but maybe you misunderstood some things?

(BTW "regular" Pursers do get business cards.)
sorry for the confusion, the other supervisors did not fly from EWR, they flew from ORD and SFO respectively to DEL. So EWR on my flight, then the ORD supervisor on the flight that arrived a few minutes before ours, and the SFO flight that arrived a few hours after.

I'm not falling into the trap of getting excited about warmed nuts returning! They're still miles behind their competition* and these incremental improvements don't sound like they're long term planning on returning service to levels that were the norm before the pandemic.

*I consider any airline flying the same route to be competition

The article says other improvements are coming, such as a separate desert course as well as improved desserts

One insider suggested that the multi-course desserts will return, but no longer be served from a cart. Instead, cheese, petit fours, and ice cream sundaes will be brought from the galley to each seat.
I wonder if this bit was from someone else he talked to or if this is from my comment because MatthewLAX is pretty regularly active on FT. Would be cool either way, multiple sources confirming the same thing, or I made the liveandletsfly cut 😂.

AAs offerings are much better on their domestic Flagship routes (hot towels, bread basket, separate courses not all on one tray, sundaes for dessert, etc.)

Their non-Flagship domestic routes are a different story however.

Quite excited about the possibility of the sundae returning... My favorite thing about the dinner meal service before the pandemic! I've filled out every United service-related survey making sure to note my love of ice cream.

How does United “officially” decide which domestic routes are eligible for the hot sandwich in F? If I need to eat one more snack bag on EWR-ORD (blocked at ~2:40) I will go crazy.

It is beleive the cutoff is 800 miles for hub-hub and 1,500 when a non-hub is involved.

EWR-ORD is under 800 (719 per gcmap)

Thank you! I just don’t get why it’s not described accordingly online: https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...ing/first.html

There are numerous airlines that currently offer a far better product than United. Just look at Kirby's beloved NPS scores...
When the big improvement is that <gasp> nuts are going to be served with a pre dinner beverage you know just how far things have fallen.

The times used in the past have referred to in-flight time, not block or gate-gate times

Totally makes sense, but I think the website should state that as being the case. Right now it reads as a bait-and-switch—it’s not like the block time vs. flight time distinction is called out in any customer-facing way.
