This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

Delta is bringing back hot meals on all 900 mile fights.

Wonder if UA will do the same. We have the hot sandwiches on these flights. I'd be happy if they kept the hot sandwich but added a bag of chips to go with the sandwich. That would be a sufficient meal for a 900 mile flight
Even at 900 miles, All of the west coast to DEN outside of LAX and SFO which falls under the Hub to Hub rule, still would not get a meal. Pre Covid, West Coast to DEN got a meal / snack depending on the time of the day. SNA to DEN, would get a full hot meal even though it showed as a snack flight.

The sandwiches either needs to be heated right or not at all. My first sandwich experience between DEN - SNA last year, parts of it was still frozen, parts were cold, parts of it was hot and parts of it just lukewarm all in the same sandwich.

Some good news -- digital menus and three-course service on select longhaul routes (mostly to/from FRA) next month:

(disclaimer - this is a link to my blog)

As I noted, though:

But we'll take what we can get and restoring the linen along with digital menus and a three-course service is certainly a step in the right direction.

great news to hear. Do you know if the digital menu card will only be visible to those who are on that flight or anybody can go and look up the menu card for those flights flight kind of like Lufthansa or emirates?

I recently booked YYC-SFO on both AC and UA. Would like to use up some UA FFC but it'd definitely be dependent on them providing proper meal service. For comparison, here's AC's current menu on that route
APPETIZER
Heritage mix salad, kale, radicchio, frisée, white, red and black quinoa
MAIN COURSE
Chicken thigh, korma-style sauce, basmati rice, spinach curry
OR
Cheese and spinach ravioli, arrabbiata sauce, spinach, Parmesan
DESSERT
Brownie deluxe
Right now it really feels like UA doesn't want my money.

except in UA’s case the sandwich is the odd/terrible ultra sodium laden hot meal

Don't know, but I will find out.

I am hoping that it will be present in the "amenities" section of the flight status page for everyone to see...sort of like how AC does it.

Does AC then have a link/button: "Select here to upgrade"?

Off-topic, but do you know that AC sells leftover business class meals in coach? It's such a great idea and helps to ensure that business class passengers receive their first choice.

Air Canda's e-upgrade system seems more complicated that PlsPoints, but that's a whole different matter.

Concerning this thread, I'm just thankful UA has not devalued PlusPoints...yet.

That would be nice and cool too to be honest.

I’m suspecting that each of these hub’s inflight supervisors will make their rounds on these flights to examine the service and whatnot
hoping people on this thread have FRA flights coming up that they can report back on regarding what this looks like that would be cool.

I would also like it if United tested this on much longer routes too (talking 14-16 hour flights). I don't want them to try this only on these 7-hour red-eye hops and say "the feedback was that everyone wants to sleep early so we will keep reduced service", whereas on long flights more than enough people are happy and willing to stay up an extra hour for improved service. I am witness to this time in and time out

Hi folks, could someone tell me what to expect on a 5-hour flight from SJU to IAH at 4 p.m. or so? Warm sandwich, etc., or will it actually really just be a snack box as the UA website seems to indicate (https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...g/first.html)?

As for booze, does UA currently have those premade cocktails ("on the rocks" brand or whatever)?

TIA -- I looked around here but the wiki looks like it dates to July 2020

As the flight is over 1,500 miles (2,007 miles) you will receive a choice of two hot entrees with a side of fruit, bread, and a cookie.

UA does still have the Old Fashioned cocktail from On The Rocks.

More good news - I spoke to UA today and they told me there will be multiple dessert options, including the return of cheese/crackers on these Polaris test flights next month. I've went back and updated my story.

What is meant by appetizers? Do you mean it will be served in courses?

We’ll know we are getting there when the garlic bread is back on board…

The little appetizers (usually duck or beef, sometimes shrimp) we used to get with the salad before the main course.

If you check out what I wrote yesterday, UA will be testing out three-course service next month on FRA routes and ORD-LHR. Will include nuts/drinks, then tray with main course/salad/bread, then dessert separately with "multiple" options.

Agree - I hope the garlic bread and cinnamon rolls will return.

But this is another step closer. And while the sundae cart will not be back, one option will be "pre-made" sundaes I'm told. I'm looking forward to it.
