This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

I had a much more substantial midflight snack - actually a meal served on a tray - on UA837 this summer. And that was in PremPlus!

I don’t get the discrimination against SIN - that is not a bottom feeder route by any means

Just for comparison, and JAL is by no means the de fact market leader in inflight quality, here is the "anytime menu" for a US-Tokyo flight along with a selection of a few things I ordered, conveniently from my IFE hand controller and served to me a few minutes later, absent any FA scowling because I interrupted their reading of the latest "Cher is actually 94 years old" article in People Magazine.

Given that JAL is often at a price point well below UA for comparable routes to Japan and beyond, I just can't fathom how United feels that a tray of crap shoved up against the door is in any way OK for a "best in the world" (Kirby) international business class product. In fact, the JAL "Anytime" menu is leaps and bounds beyond the Polaris main meal menu.

So, it can be done - but apparently one needs to care about their inflight product to actually do it.

You’d think UA might want to lead or innovate on its longest flight.🙄
I haven't had the tomato soup / grilled cheese in Polaris since Feb. 2020. Did they ever bring that back? It was a really nice mid-flight snack.

Not that I have seen. Maybe potato chips, water, and leftover cheese. Their approach to this area of service tells you all you need to know as to how United management sees its best customers: as saps, marks, pigeons

Come on, don't forget the 3 bags of potato chips, a few pouches of almonds and the two cheese plates that no one wanted that have been sitting out in the sun by the door for 2 hours.

I've seen those pigeons you spoke of eat better on their flights.

Don't forget the gummy bears. I was on one long haul flight this year where the only snacks offered were potato chips and gummy bears. Maybe UA is targetting a much younger Polaris customer these days....

Perhaps showing my age, but it’s been a long time…do they provide any pillows (or blankets), even if by request only, on domestic [narrowbody] redeyes. If so, in F/J only, or Y also?

Who would you contact at United to tell them how cheap, parsimonious, and out-of-touch with the competition their Polaris food offerings are? At least make them uncomfortable at being such totoal Food Scrooges!

If one looks at UA on Social media...they get tens of thousands of "likes" and such for their posts about Polaris or whatever "new plane" "new route" post.
So, clearly, the public does not understand differences in service levels or food quality between airlines.

We at FT are very acutely aware of these issues.

My only recent experiences are PHX-ORD redeyes in first. They had the thin blankets at the seat when boarding.

FRA-IAD in J. No amenity kit at my seat, and the FA literally walked right by me without taking my order and took it last. Great start! Lmao.

Premium transcon flights have pillow, cooling pillow, and Saks comforter. On other domestic flights, the thin gauze-like blanket is available upon request, in F/J.

Do you have any UA status? Crews will often go direct to 1K and GS customers to get their order, then come back around to non-status customers.

Of course if UA offered pre-departure meal ordering like most other "premium best in the world" (Kirby) airlines, this would all be a none issue.

I have a AA flight next week where I placed my F dinner order two weeks ago, it's not really rocket science - unless you just flat out don't care.
