Meanwhile tomorrow's 1273 SFO-OGG looks like it just got swapped from a (Polaris) 772 to 738...

Well I suppose if there’s a time for grounding 30% of your 772 fleet, COVID isn’t a bad one.

Ouch - that is quite a downgrade for those up front in this pandemic era.

Probably a few days at least. No doubt a thorough inspection of the fan blades will conducted.

I’m scheduled for domestic first on one in 2 weeks. Seems the flight tomorrow was upgraded to a 787, do you think the 777 will be back in 2 weeks?

Didn't P&W have issues with their engines for the Airbus 321NEO? I hope they come out of this OK as it's good to have more competition in the engine space. I believe P&W engines were the launch engines for the 777 and UA was the launch customer?

Yes, using P&W

The news says this is a 1994 delivery which would mean nearly an OG 777.

This has nothing to do with Boeing and everything to do with Pratt & Whitney ($RTX). Airframes and engines are built and purchased separately.

What's your point ? Those on A321NEO are PW1100G, completely different than 772's PW4077 and a completely different problem.

Yes UA was the launch customer for 777 and PW was the launch engines.

Interestingly if the app is correct it looks like N78001 (sCO 772) is ferrying EWR-OGG tomorrow to operate the 772 return UA1580 OGG-SFO (although EWR-OGG is only scheduled to land at 1.54pm, so no chance OGG-SFO goes out at 10am but there's no delay posted yet).

However looks like Tuesday's 1580 gets the 738...
