First reports of challanges15 Jan 2019
For discussion of GS benefits, please use Consolidated Global Services Thread: Benefits, Questions 2018
For 2017 qualifications, see the 2017 thread and for 2018, see the 2018 thread

To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to
MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

Definitions

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

Similar spreadsheets were created in years past, so I'm hoping to continue this tradition. Please take the time to enter your stats into the spreadsheet. Many thanks

I had to make a change to one of my trips, and as a result I believe I'll finish 2018 just over the United $50k threshold you mention. My new projected numbers are:
PQM: 286,102
PQD: $50,819
PQD (United metal): $50,335
BIS: 167,185
PQS: 99
CPM: 0.30

Does being *just* over the $50K PQD mark for SFO make a big difference then? What do you think y chances look like with these numbers?
does anyone out there with access to the previous couple years of qualification data know if anyone over $50k PQD did not qualify? I don't believe I remember an instance.

I am in your shoes... $51k PQD at year's end... was Denver based but now Orlando for 3 months. I would think we either both qualify or both miss, though I'm not betting on the latter.

Vaguely remembering there were a few datapoints but you also have to be skeptical of the data
Was it all UA?
Was it PQDs or total cost?
Was it real, this is the internet.

How much does prior year trend matter? I always feel like I'm on the fence. Will end $42k this year slight up from last year and the year before. I've made it the last 2 years. In the system, I'm SNA based. But my flights have originated from PEK, SFO, SJC, SNA, PDX and elsewhere. Rarely originate from SNA. Also, my yield this year is significantly lower than past years. I think around 10c/m versus prior years closer to 20c.

My gut says your CPBisM is far too low, especially without substantial ($>60k spend) and likely doesn't meet UA's stated requirement/expectation of primarily full-fare and/or premium cabin travel.

For reference the latest financial reporting puts United's PRASM (Passenger revenue per available seat mile) at $0.1373 and the yield per revenue passenger mile at $0.1596 -- I would assume that being below those targets would be a more-or-less disqualifying factor since GS is intended for high yield/revenue passengers.

4 years back, I didn't qualify on similar PQD on UA metal with $0.35/bis mile. I don't see these stats making it.

That should probably be a clue that despite its popularity on this forum, "CPM" is not relevant. Look at the spreadsheets and you will find plenty of people with "CPM" in the $.20 to $.30 range and PQD in 40Ks (or even 30Ks) who did make GS. For my own part, I made it one year on $0.20 "CPM" and only $39K PQD.

What about last December?

I see that qualifying will be announced Dec 8th?

i will end up at $52000PQD, 200k PQM about 60PQS out of Newark/Philly

I looked back I did have another $5300, 20kPQM in December last year. Don’t know if this is a Dec1-Dec1 evaluation if Jan1- Dec1 Evaluation.

Anyway. I will wait and see

last 2 years were $30k in 2016, $40k 2017

@LordHamster--outstanding phraseology!! I hope your wife enjoys it: somehow my wife doesn't quite resent my travel so much when UA gives her some GS love, especially without me by her side.

December historically was entirely requals, with new qualifications notified in January. Unclear whether they look forward through existing 2018 bookings for the requal assessment.

OK thanks. Maybe I'll have a little more this Dec to put me in the $55k range. But I will have to wait to Jan as I am not a re-qual.
