So they will going to 10 across on the 777 (25+ seats and currently 25 rows of Y on the 2 cabin 772), may God have mercy on the people who have to fly in that configuration.

On the 753, they are adding 5.5 rows of seats, they must be reducing pitch to 30" and probably removing a lav or mid cabin galley.

If we are lucky, UA might consider keeping a small fleet with F on it (changing course from the SMI/J decision) like AA did on the 77W, maybe keeping F on a few 772s to fly to LHR, NRT, and FRA.

Nope F is going away.

No 3-cabin 777s get reconfigured first then the sub CO ones. Configuration will be the same.

I'm going to miss 9 across in Y once it's gone.

753 is going up 21 seats. That's 3.5 rows, not 5.5 rows. Each row is 6.

So, the closet at row 41, galley at row 7 and a lav is going at row 32 look like possibilities to add a set of 3 seats each.

If three full rows are added: 1 in front of exits, 1 or 2 rows between overwing exit and door 3 and maybe 1 at back of aircraft. My guess is slimline lavs by door 3. In any case this will be pretty tight with 30" pitch. I guess more profitable for Hawaii and hub to hub. A 10% increase in total seats.

I think it more likely the galley at 7, lav at 32 and closet at 41 all go and then only 2 full rows are added, one in front of overwing exits and one just behind overwing exit. There doesn't appear to gain a row in the back section as there are only 8 rows (8 rows pick up only 8 inches.)

Removing on lav in Y would take it to 1 lav per 70 pax (assuming lav behind F is for Y use. The F lav ratio is 1 to 24 (plus crew use) - my guess is occasionally, the lav behind F is shared with F and Y pax. Right now the 753 has the most lavs for Y passengers. Lav ratios in Y range from 1 to 47 on 753 to 1 to 75 on 738.

For such a small fleet will they keep half with DTV and half with PDE? This seems like a great time to standardize.

There is an existing contract with LiveTV/Thales. I am sure UA will get rid of the seat back screens the moment they can. (I happen to like them but know many don’t.)

Methinks they want to get rid of DirecTv, not necessarily screens, AA has better ones (haven't flown DL in ages).

But you may be right, with so many having devices devices capable of streaming and UA screens being inferior to AA. It would be a major investment to catch up.

Content is pretty lousy on both, so I just bring my own @:-)

Screens are the issue, they are weight.

Streamable DirecTV might be an approach, that is getting OT for this thread.

And AA is scrapping its screens on single-aisle planes in favor of PDE.
