Update:

I was also allowed to book if I was in a Private Firefox browser page. So, does this mean it's some sort of cookie error? Anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks for the help - at least I got my ticket booked.

Can .bomb suck any more?

Over the last 3 days I've tried to buy a ticket on the United website multiple times. I started off with the password security theatre, which went surprising well, but that was about it for the good news.

- The system doesn't keep me logged in when I try to make a reservation, even when I'm shown as logged in via the upper right user ID marker.
- The system doesn't recognize overnight flights when using any of the filters, rendering the filters useless for international travel.
- If I somehow maintain logged in status long enough to pick flights and seats, I'll get a website error when I try to buy.

Tonight I gave up and just called the 1K help desk. Is this where United is now? That we have to revert to calling their agents to buy a ticket? What's next? Only buy tickets in cash at the airport? Wait! I don't want to give them any ideas.

Please tell me I'm not the only one hating on .bomb

.

I think we've all experienced glitches.

That said, I think unitd.com is better than pretty much any other airline web site. And the app is superlative compared to others.

I dare say sir, that your sarcasm is so subtle to be taken as actual fact

I blame HTML5.

But then again, I blame HTML5 for pretty much anything. I can't think of ANY site that didn't get WORSE with more glitches once they implemented HTML5.

HTML5: Doesn't work at all, but it it sure looks pretty though!

I agree, except that it's way too bloated.

The uglest pages in the world are created with HTML5.

For me the site seems to have g:mad:tten worse with every update. I've got the same issues as the OP here. The site is pretty much unusable for me. I've tried to buy tickets and have been unable to do so by just going to the site. I have had some luck searching via flights.google.com and then telling that site I want to purchase from United. But even those purchases have had issues ...

This is a basic issue of software quality and of changes being rolled out without thorough testing. Calling anything like this a "glitch" is sunny day euphemism for "we can't get our cr*p to work".

At this point it has to be costing them serious amounts in lost sales and I would think we'd see some changes, either in key personnel or in what is publicly deployed.

OP, have you tried opening it in an incognito window? I've had several issues with newUA.com and running it in incognito works when I have needed it to.. Just an idea.

Yeah, INDEED!
My "HTML5: Doesn't work at all, but it it sure looks pretty though!" was more meant as a facetious tagline! :)

I recall logging into the "old" united.com thinking & hoping that they hold off with the HTML5-garbage for as long as possible, knowing only too well, that the inevitability would eventually arrive....as it did! :(

I've encountered several glitches here and there as well, but my only other website comparisons have been southwest and american and unfortunately united is better than both on pretty much all fronts. I made a reservation on aa.com and I was unable to make any changes online. When I cancelled to rebook an alternate itinerary, I had to fill out a separate online webform to get a refund. United's app is also better, although by no means perfect.

Clearly UA missed the .bomb moniker that they lost when they made their best merger decision by keeping CO.com.

They sure have it back now, can't get too far without it erroring out.

Kacee Feb 24, 2016 10:04 pm

Separate and apart from all the errors and dysfunction, the new site is just so pathetically slow (and seems to be getting slower).

I'm now using Google Flights for everything that doesn't require seeing fare buckets.
