I just use google flights nowadays - it shows exactly the same prices and fares (and shows the total from the beginning), and redirects to united once you've selected your flights.

And what happened to Star Alliance partner inventory? UA would FAR prefer you routed USA-Sydney etc on UA metal than pay partners to get you there. Ideally so the Kettles will burn miles using Standard awards on UA (as Saver does not exist on UA on transpac basically) and not Saver on partners. I just booked SYD-NYC via Seoul one way and Tokyo the return, all in Biz, both on directs to JFK, nothing on UA metal, using old site. Nice attentive FAs that smile, and do not chew gum, and are under Senior Card age, who do not serve white wine and bubbly unchilled, and drawl "ya want the checkin, beff or Pesta?". :D Partner results were WAY down base of page, on dates that showed NO Biz seats available on the month map. I have no doubt on the New Coke they are not there at all. (Despite inventory actually existing.) Another "ENHANCEMENT" for us. . |

Yes. You need to enable expert mode ...
I really dislike having to go and select every stage of a flight to see what the final fare will be... Perhaps this "expert mode" has some options... edit - Hhhmm.. Guess not. Google flights it is, then..

Interesting... I need to search for this. I tried buying a ticket today, and finally realised that all my backdoors to the old site have been closed. How did you achieve the old site? All my tricks stopped working today *sigh* Z... I just use IE as normal and checked just now and that still works fine. I never log in there - just look at flights. My Firefox went New Coke when I logged in. |

Interesting - thanks for the reply. That must be how I broke my Firefox. I bought a ticket 2 days ago (and logged in). Blargh... May have to resort to using my games machine, seeing as I've never logged in to the site with it. I'll try cookie clearing trick first, though.
Z.. (Once you've opened a private browsing session, it seems that all the cookies are stored until you close ALL private browsing windows - something to watch out for in case you log in, close the tab, but didn't close all private windows, and then open the site again.) |

I recently noticed that all of my reservations booked on the new web site list my full middle name, instead of just my first name and my middle initial:
<FirstName><MiddleName> <LastName> instead of Mr. <FirstName><MiddleInitial> <LastName> My profile has always listed my full middle name, but it had not appeared on any of my reservations booked on the old site or on my boarding passes. Has anybody else noticed this? I don't think it will affect PreCheck, at least I hope not! |

I just noticed this, too, and I recently booked one flight on the old website (easier to search for upgrades) and one on the new, and see that even when I look at my reservations on the new website, some are FirstM Last and others are First Middle Last, depending on where I booked them. Odd. Also, I notice that under the traveler info for each reservation, it has my known traveler number but not my passport number or emergency contact info. I can input it, but it is not there when I look again. On the other hand, all that is still in my profile. Also odd. Well, we will see if any of this makes a difference.
I doubt it'll make any difference - in the past with different airlines I've not had any issues with just about every permutation possible (my biggest pet peeve is that Swiss insist on concatenating my names into the first name, i.e. my first name for them is FirstMiddle1Middle2 without any spaces - they require both "first" and last name when accessing a booking online, which was needlessly confusing). |
Mileage Plus Award Searching Tips: New Website
I imagine this is heading for a merge (I did not find the existing thread on the first couple pages, but I'm pre-coffee this morning.)
Last night I was somehow on the old United award search page and a flight from DTW to OGG through IAD (and Honolulu) was showing for me at saver level plus a small surcharge for the last leg. I consulted with Mrs. HighOPS about the dates and returned and somehow was on the new site. The new site when I typed the same search showed no saver availability. So, I searched for a multi-leg flight DTW-IAD-OGG and there was my saver award flight. Now if I hadn't somehow found my way to the old site I wouldn't have easily known about it. Have y'all discovered ways to better search on the new site? Any tips you want to share? |
Problem with mobile.united.com
I can login to my MP account on united.com easily. But I cannot login on mobile.united.com -- either in a Web browser or via the United iPhone app. I suppose that the backend database of mobile.united.com has lost my account record. But I don't know who to contact -- I sent a message to United MP help and have no answer. I've called, and CSRs are just baffled and don't help. Once I got a tech support person who was also baffled, and then cut me off. Where to turn?

Searching by Fare Class Broken on new UA.com?
I need to book flexible/refundable fares. Typically Y/B, sometimes F/A/Z. Am I the only person having problems getting the new ua.com to behave in this regard?
For example, if I put Y, B in the fare class search box last night for a CLE-PHL yesterday, it told me that "Economy (Flexible)" was unavailable for all of the options listed, and the fares under "Economy (Lowest)" were all S/L/Q/etc nonrefundable/penalty fares... yet all of those had Y9 B9 inventory. It seemed like UA.com was actually trying to offer me the opposite of what I explicitly searched for. Thinking that the backend may be getting hung up on "Y=Any Economy" rather than the Y farebucket I tried just "B" and got exactly the same results. Searching for F/A or A only got me a bunch of P first nonrefundable options. And then on the "mixed cabin" options I was looking at did something stupid like a F fare on one segment and then a L fare (instead of Y or B) on the second Is there some trick I'm missing or has UA shaken up the fare class structure (is there any comprehensive list of which classes are penalty-free?) |
I've been noticing this sort of thing as well - requested fare class is shown as unavailable but there is inventory in that bucket. Not sure what the deal is.
|
I noticed a few days ago that the new site was doing what the old one did (at least for international flights) of not showing all R space automatically unless you tried every leg as a nonstop using multi-city.
