Information for passengers departing with Eurowings:
- Passengers who have booked a SMART or BEST fare and who have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator card have access to Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
- Passengers who have booked a SMART fare and who have a Miles & More Frequent Traveller card have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
- Passengers who have booked a BEST fare have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
- Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold card only have access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges if they are customers of United Airlines (UA) or All Nippon Airways (NH).
The german version of the Lufthansa website clearly says that no fare restriction apply.

Gäste, die eine Star Alliance Gold Card besitzen, haben nur dann Zugang zu den Senator und Business Lounges der Lufthansa, wenn sie Kunden der Fluggesellschaften United Airlines (UA) und All Nippon Airways (NH) sind. Dies ist von dem gebuchten Tarif unabhängig.

[LH Lounge access] Advice for passengers who are departing with Eurowings:
- Passengers have free access to the Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges in Germany provided they have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator Card.
- Passengers who have booked the Eurowings BEST fare and Frequent Travellers who have booked the SMART fare are entitled to use the Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their flight.
- Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold Card, however, do not have access to the Lufthansa Lounges. Exceptions to this are the Star Alliance Gold Card customers of the airlines United Airlines (UA) and All Nippon Airways (NH), who receive access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges.
- Not confirmed, but plausible: Rules will change from March 26, 2017:
Access to LH Lounge is only possible when departing on a SMART or BEST fare. BASIC fare does not entitle to lounge access.
Does UA *G get lounge access when flying Eurowings?

that's the subject of this thread -- there has been access in the past but the question is that situation is changing
For *G, if departing on *A flight, which Eurowings isn't
IME yes
*G is meaningless to Eurowings, of no help -- standard ticket allowance (and very restrictive carry-on)

Thanks WineCountryUA for the clarification on these items. To answer your question I was thinking of flying MAN to NYC via DUS all on EW metal (since I have a sweet AmEx UK credit for EW). However, the lack of baggage on EW is a deal-killer for me since I would likely need 1 checked bag.
Is EW the only UA partner that earns 100% PQM on the lowest fare? My understanding is the JV with the LH Group and AC meant 50% PQM on Basic Economy tickets and this revelation is startling to say the least!

I had no problem accessing the Senator lounge in Hamburg with a basic fare today. Even the new digital card in the app was not a problem.

Today at CDG on a Eurowings Basic fare as United 1K, the agent at the Lufthansa lounge said she'll let me in, but that in the future, I must have a Smart fare or above. Her partner agreed with her. She wasn't interested in reading the details of the Lufthansa policy online that I offered to share (she "believed" me, she said!), so I didn't bother to argue with her.
Today at DUS on a Eurowings Basic fare, I had no problem entering the Senator lounge.

Last time at DUS the scanner even said denied and the agent overrode with my membership card without batting an eye.

Guests holding a Star Alliance Gold Card will only have access to Lufthansa's Senator and Business Lounges if they are customers of United Airlines (UA) and All Nippon Airways (NH). This is independent of the booked tariff.
Also, depending on the class of travel you're flying in and whether you have an incoming * flight since that also impacts lounge access. For instance, let's suppose you were flying UA into LHR in Polaris J. Then technically you'll have access to the wonderful UCs @ LHR on arrival for you and your guest.
Hope that provides some clarification.

Either way UA awards tickets are not considered BASIC fare, so that is a non-issue.
But it requires for that guest to be departing on an *A flight. The uncertainty is if departing on an EW flight also qualifies. Don't remember an earlier poster in this thread has yet addressed that issue.

MsHalls120 and I have enjoyed the LH lounge prior to every EW flight we've taken. That said, she is also lifetime *A Gold, so I don't know what would have been the result if I had tried to guest in a non-*A Gold.

Correct -- this has been true for some time although recently the Basic fare concern has been raised. It appears to be a limitation for LH elites but based on the website and actual experiences (posted earlier in this thread) it is not a limitation UA *G. The statements from the LH site (both English and German sites) and links to those statements are provided in this thread's wiki.

i will try.however i have one more question..
all 3 on same flight
2 1ks will be on united award so smart fare but the non 1k who we want to guest in
may be on a basic fare..
would this affect chances of getting him into lounge as a guest of us or not make any difference?

Absolutely! Lufthansa specifically spells it out on their (German) website by stating (translated):
That is up for debate since LH doesn't specifically tell you either way whether guest access will be provided. Please report back if you were successful in getting guest access since that's something we all want to know.
Also, depending on the class of travel you're flying in and whether you have an incoming * flight since that also impacts lounge access.
