Information for passengers departing with Eurowings:
  • Passengers who have booked a SMART or BEST fare and who have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator card have access to Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have booked a SMART fare and who have a Miles & More Frequent Traveller card have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have booked a BEST fare have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold card only have access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges if they are customers of United Airlines (UA) or All Nippon Airways (NH).

Gäste, die eine Star Alliance Gold Card besitzen, haben nur dann Zugang zu den Senator und Business Lounges der Lufthansa, wenn sie Kunden der Fluggesellschaften United Airlines (UA) und All Nippon Airways (NH) sind. Dies ist von dem gebuchten Tarif unabhängig.

[LH Lounge access] Advice for passengers who are departing with Eurowings:
  • Passengers have free access to the Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges in Germany provided they have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator Card.
  • Passengers who have booked the Eurowings BEST fare and Frequent Travellers who have booked the SMART fare are entitled to use the Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their flight.
  • Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold Card, however, do not have access to the Lufthansa Lounges. Exceptions to this are the Star Alliance Gold Card customers of the airlines United Airlines (UA) and All Nippon Airways (NH), who receive access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges.
  • Not confirmed, but plausible: Rules will change from March 26, 2017:
Access to LH Lounge is only possible when departing on a SMART or BEST fare. BASIC fare does not entitle to lounge access.

Starting October 29th, only Smart and Best Fares qualify for Lounge access, whilst Basic Fares will be excluded (even for HON Circle Members).

Any fare booked through an GDS (for example via United.com or Lufthansa.com) is an Smart or Best fare. Basic fares are only sold on the Eurowings website, as tour operator fares and selected third party agencies (such as Tuifly.com).
I heard this rumor from the Cologne Senator Lounge dragon a couple weeks ago. Unfortunate this is true...is this also going to be updated on the LH.com site (http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Lounge-types-and-access)?

There is some good news in that. According to your information, Eurowings passenger can now access the LX Biz and Sen Lounge at ZRH Terminal E.

They always should have been able to do so. LX Lounges in A are closed anyway for renovation.

Most Economy Classes can be booked as Basic and Smart branded fares. Only exemption is I, which can only be booked as Smart Flex.

If you want to make sure that you have a Smart fare, you can book directly on the Eurowings.com website or book via any GDS (which is more expensive most of the time, but can be cheaper sometimes - especially ex UK).

As October 28th has passed by now: Any new experiences regarding UA *G Lounge Access when booked on EW Basic Fare? Lufthansa-Website is still not up-to-date and Eurowings.com does not even include any word about UA / NH Gold members (just like before).

One data point at the LH SEN Lounge at STR:
Only pax on Eurowings SMART and BEST with UA*G may access the LH BUS/SEN lounge.
An eligible may guest in one person (even if the person is on a BASIC fare). However, the guest must be on the same flight than the eligible flight.
Therefore, a guest is not allowed if the guest departs at 6pm on Eurowings, and the eligible passenger departs at 8pm on Eurowings.

Guesting does require the guest having a *A BP which the guest did not. The same flight for the guest was probably the agent try to be helpful.

If I can't get into LH lounges (Gold on Basic) at LHR, can I get into the UA Club at least?

UPDATE
Nevermind, got into Senator lounge with no issue. Seems like just pretending you're supposed to be somewhere goes a long way. 😂

No issue. I did that just last week at STR; flew on an SN ticket on a flight operated by EW.

That is a codeshare, and codeshares are always booked in SMART or BEST Fares. So not a problem for you.
