Information for passengers departing with Eurowings:
  • Passengers who have booked a SMART or BEST fare and who have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator card have access to Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have booked a SMART fare and who have a Miles & More Frequent Traveller card have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have booked a BEST fare have access to Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their departure.
  • Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold card only have access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges if they are customers of United Airlines (UA) or All Nippon Airways (NH).

Gäste, die eine Star Alliance Gold Card besitzen, haben nur dann Zugang zu den Senator und Business Lounges der Lufthansa, wenn sie Kunden der Fluggesellschaften United Airlines (UA) und All Nippon Airways (NH) sind. Dies ist von dem gebuchten Tarif unabhängig.
" Dies ist von dem gebuchten Tarif unabhängig. " ==> "This is independent of the booked tariff (fare)"

[LH Lounge access] Advice for passengers who are departing with Eurowings:
  • Passengers have free access to the Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounges in Germany provided they have a Miles & More HON Circle Member or Senator Card.
  • Passengers who have booked the Eurowings BEST fare and Frequent Travellers who have booked the SMART fare are entitled to use the Lufthansa Business Lounges on the day of their flight.
  • Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold Card, however, do not have access to the Lufthansa Lounges. Exceptions to this are the Star Alliance Gold Card customers of the airlines United Airlines (UA) and All Nippon Airways (NH), who receive access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges.
  • Not confirmed, but plausible: Rules will change from March 26, 2017:
Access to LH Lounge is only possible when departing on a SMART or BEST fare. BASIC fare does not entitle to lounge access.

I think that was always the case, officially. Policy here: https://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/lounge-types-and-access

You need to be on BEST or SMART.

I think you’re implying that since it’s the case for Lufthansa’s members. However, it doesn’t say that for United Star Gold members.

When I started flying EW last year, I was told that I would have difficulty getting into LH lounges on a Basic fare. That’s why I always purchase a Smart fare.

It doesn’t, you’re right, but it would be odd to grant outsiders a privilege that insiders don’t have.

Yes, but Air Canada’s Star Gold members flying Eurowings don’t get Lufthansa Lounge access at all. The arrangement for United and ANA members to get access is a special bilateral agreement between those airlines and Lufthansa. Question is whether that agreement says anything about fare type- basic or smart.

I have an United Club membership, but lack *G status. If flying on LH I should be able to use their business lounges. Does anyone know if the bilateral UA/LH agreement covers me, too?

no, they were wrong. No change for UA/NH.
Passengers who have a Star Alliance Gold card only have access to Lufthansa’s Senator and Business Lounges if they are customers of United Airlines (UA) or All Nippon Airways (NH).
Please report this to United.

I had no problem accessing the Senator lounge in Hamburg with a basic fare today. Even the new digital card in the app was not a problem.
The german version of the Lufthansa website clearly says that no fare restriction apply.

Thanks, this is very useful, especially as the english version is missing that crucial last sentence.

For completeness, may I ask what status you hold?

United Premier Gold

I never have an issue in Germany, only in Zurich they will not let me in the lounge with a basic fare. They claim you need a smart fare. I guess that's the difference between a Lufthansa Senator lounge and a Swiss Senator lounge...

Thanks. It seems it's useful to have the rules printed out!

the benefit is for Lufthansa and NOT for Swiss. So absolutely, no access to Swiss lounges through UA *G

Thinking of purchasing a EuroWings flight from UK to US in September and have a couple of quick questions (am currently UA Gold):
  1. Is lounge LH access still available on Basic fares? What about UC access?
  2. Will I earn 100% PQM on all EuroWings flights (including Basic)? Checking the UA site it seems to be yes, but would like confirmation?
  3. Do I get extra bags with my Basic fare as a UA Gold or is simply the carry on only model?
Thanks in advance,

James
