Thanks, all. I bought the W, so we'll see how this goes. At the very least I'll get an extra 484 PQD out of it. :/

Chance of CPU on EWR-ORD on SDC

Title says it all.

United Express serves this route for, kind of strangely, significantly cheaper than mainline on the dates I'm looking at. Only thing is I'd really love to fly a 757/767 (and maybe try whatever new menu) instead of a RJ.

As a PP, I'm going to guess I can clear at T-72 on just a CPU if I just book on the mainline flights, based on looking at R/general availability for flights three days from today (there's probably R15+ on the 767, especially if the ones booked in business are upgraded). T-24 looks pretty good also, but definitely a lot less sure.

Worth it to try and clear on a SDC? I have no clue about the chances, especially with this being EWR-ORD and all.

Stranger things have happened, but it's pretty unlikely IME.

Hub to hub is tough.

using flight loads data for travel 3 days from today to assess the probability of clearing on a random date in the future is a fool's errand. buy the flight that works for your schedule and your budget. if you want to be assured of flying in J, buy J.

I am looking at flights from SAN to LHR on March 4th and wondering about upgrade chances on a V fare with a GPU. I am 1K. I can connect in:
IAH - UA 4 (787) J9 C4 D4 Z4 ZN4 R0
IAH - UA 921 J9 C8 D8 Z8 ZN8 R0
IAD - UA 924 J9 C1 D1 Z1 ZN1 R0
SFO - UA 930 J9 C8 D7 Z2 ZN2 R0
EWR - UA 942 J8 C5 D5 Z5 ZN6 R0

It looks like 921 would be the best bet with the seating, but wondering if anyone has experiences with these routes.

P and PN, which you have not shown, are the fare classes most relevant to this inquiry.

Guessing upgrade likelihood on single fare class snapshot is a complete crapshoot anyway. You need to watch a flight for weeks to get any sense of how R is released, and even then waitlisting is always a gamble.

Sorry! Quoted the wrong ones. Here are P and PN and yes I know it is always a crapshoot. Looking for experiences with this route that might help. Not asking for any guarantees (I would buy J for that!). Just non-binding advice.

IAD-HNL or EWR-HNL Better Chance for RPU Upgrade

I am planning a family vacation trip mid-May to Lihue from Richmond, my wife on 1 itinerary and my daughter and I on another since we'll fly out on separate dates. Itineraries with all UA flights outbound for my wife are priced >$1900. Flights connecting through HNL and then Island Air or Hawaiian Air are priced more reasonably (still high) at >$1200, so I'm looking for best options that I can use RPUs for upgrade.

Outbound options I am considering are RIC-IAD-HNL-LIH or RIC-EWR-HNL-LIH for outbound (return options are showing as LIH-SFO-ORD-RIC, options with HNL-IAD or EWR are expensive). Seat map shows 2 more BF seats available for EWR-HNL at this time (I know it's no indication of actual BF booked). Both options are R0 RN0 so both will be waitlisted. This leg is for my wife who has no status.

Question to those who are experienced with IAD and EWR to HNL: which route should I book? EWR-HNL or IAD-HNL?

Thanks

Hello -

My sister and brother-in-law are taking flight UA8924 from Chicago to Munich at 5:30PM on Friday May1st. They have no status, but I have sponsored them with a 1K GPU. Currently no R inventory, so they've been waitlisted.

Anybody have experience upgrading this flight? Thanks!

UA8924 is LH operated flight?? (FRA-MUC?)
On May 1st the ORD-MUC flights are UA952 (UA operated - 5:30PM) and UA8854 (LH operated - 9:20PM)

I've had terrible luck with SFO-LHR the past 6 months, did have successful GPU with IAH-LHR in January with the 9pm flight, also 1 for 2 coming back LHR-LAX, but again this was in november and january

LHR-SFO-LHR is just awful now. You either buy-up or as a 1K you are pretty much out of luck is my experience on that route this year and towards the tail end of last year.
