That's an interesting report, thanks for the data.

Edit: Yup, it's going home. A 767 on mx apparently.
938 finally cancelled for MX (big surprise!). I don't know what return from LHR will be impacted by this.

Here's a first:

927 FRA-SFO. Pushed back pretty much on time. Now cannot disconnect the tug; it is one of the fancy ones that surrounds and then lifts the nose gear off the ground. We are stuck up in the air on the ground.

I was on this flight. For days it was showing a 744 that arrived from FRA on Friday. Two hours before the flight it switched to the inbound 838 from NRT and posted a 90m delay. Boarded for a 1pm departure and then there was a MX delay, some problem with the speed brakes. The pilots told me they were fine for time but I didn't talk to the FAs. At 2:30 they say the MX is fixed and the FA's have timed out -- it was an NRT crew on a 1-day turnaround. They post a 6:45 departure. It actually left at 8:16.

Now it happens that this trip was a MR to SIN with immediate turnaround, and it's hard to get agents to understand how to rebook you when you don't have a destination. After 2 hours on the phone and 2 different UC agents at SFO I got rebooked SFO-HND-SFO. I'll request ORC once the flights post.

UA838 was cancelled on 9/8 and they flew an extra NRT-SFO as UA2070 on 9/9.

Looks like they finally "let you down", so to speak. 927 left FRA about an hour late, but like all other UA flights it has so much built in time it will only arrive about a half hour late.

So why do they go through the whole "operational difficulties" nonsense?

SOME flights are delayed due to curfew, SOME are not.

In your case, the QF flight left early because they are allowed some curfew exceptions to land an hour early. So they did not wait. You though had to wait in order to arrive after 6AM. All proper curfew operation.

In the OP's case, DL17 left late, but arrived 15 minutes late. A normal curfew delay. The OP's flight would have been initially delayed for the same reason, but ended up departing another hour after DL, and arrived around 7AM. Clearly some delay other than the curfew was at play.

Agreed though that people should be concerned more about arrival time.

Looks like they have put as many passengers on UA 875 SFO-HND tonight as it is showing full in all three cabins.

Subsequently 9/13 UA 838 NRT-SFO has cancelled due to aircraft maintenance. Surprised they gave up so soon on UA 837 unless the mechanics told them it would be a lengthy fix. That or it could be a combination of not having any crew on reserve to work the flight even if it meant waiting for another one of the 744 to arrive later in the afternoon from Europe.

857 got out a little before 8pm, over 6 hours late. So why didn't the crew time out?

Also 117 EWR-HKG left over 4 hours late. Unknown reason, but there will likely be a few missed SIN connections.

It's 05.15am on 9/13. I'm at LIM and luckily not flying UA today but noticed that UA1005 from 10.25pm yesterday is delayed with an estimate of 09.00am today.

Sitting in the ORD GFL lounge now - 09/13 - UA851 ORD-PEK delayed 4h10m - looks like the plane that came in for this flight went mechanical and they are using the inbound NRT 747 - several unhappy folks in the lounge now...
