It looks like the minimum being offered is 5K miles (I tried a few options myself). Is this normal?

I seem to recall that if you (re)check in at a kiosk at the airport (on a multi-leg trip) you get offered accelerator miles then, and maybe it will be a smaller amount?

not exactly a MR, but cheapest way to get 1000 PQM at this point

I am trying to reach my 1k status, any good suggestions on some milage runs to rake in 45k before the end of this year? I have a few weekends to spare, so anything that yields a good return would be much appreciated!!!

45K?

A bit rich for (almost) anyone here...

See:

And, if you do convince yourself it is a good deal, see here for mileage run deals:

45K?

I am not sure in this day and age, unless I were planning a TON of travel including significant international, I'd do 45K worth of mileage running.

Even 20K to get to Platinum I question..

Where are you based? Do you have time to actually visit destinations? You can book this many miles at a reasonable cents-per-mile without difficulty from many places, and there are even some good deals available right now, but I'd question the value unless you actually want to explore the world a lot in Q4 2014.

Cost is irrelevant, as in you've already sent the requisite $10k donation to Jeff?

As mentioned by others, it would be helpful to know your home airport, as well as any miles vs time equation. As in, if you've already spent $10k with the airline, maybe your time is more valuable than your $$$ and it might make sense to seek out some Z or other low-priced biz fares which get you 150% PQM. Fly fewer miles in greater comfort, for more $$$. Make us jealous! ^

I've been tracking trips to Singapore for ~$1000. Returns about 20k miles, so it will get you half way there... not sure if cost works for you.

Second the SIN recommendation, especially with a TCON routing, e.g., SFO-EWR-NRT-SIN

45K in 3 months is totally doable. One long TPAC a month.

TPAC is pretty easy; I've done SFO-XXX-XXX-XXX etc-MNL & return, and also SIN. SIN is far preferable as a turnaround, but MNL allowed me to visit some new airports, like GUM.

Something else, if you're willing to "risk" non-UA metal, would be a trip to Africa. I'm doing that at the end of the month, not a mileage run but an actual vacation. Ethiopian Airways can get you there (via IAD) for about $1200, maybe a bit less, earns 100%, and gets a bit over 20k. Destination either Kenya (Nairobi) or Tanzania (Kilimanjaro).

Exploit Cheap P and Z Fares.

If you can afford it, look around for discount premium cabin fares which reward you with a class-of-service bonus of 50%. So you could fly 15K miles and collect 22.5K PQM, and you would only need 30K of actual flying to get to your goal of 45K.

Also, if you are going to go the "Mileage Run" route, be sure to exploit the 500 mile minimum for elites.

Good Luck!

If PQD is not a problem, you can buy 45,000 Accelerator PQMs for $4,500 to $9,000. You'd also have to be crazy.

haha, not that crazy : ) but I didnt think the accelerator miles counted towards status?

I totally forgot to tell my home base is SFO, I will be doing at least 3 east coast trips so thats around 20ishk so a trip to Asia might be what I am looking for then, 1000 dollars to SIN sounds nice, BKK would be even better - but I canīt seem to find any such flights though.

I am trying to reach my 1k status and need 45k PQM before Christmas

I'm in the same boat except needing 50k. I usually fly a lot to sgn but timing was bad this year so I'm 2 trips short. I'm trying to convince my client that I should go out later this month and then maybe I'll pay my self to go right before Christmas. 1k has spoiled my wife so she is OK getting rid of me for a week or two so she can have the benefits on our family trips.
