Edited: You may have problems booking the OJ at the stopover, and while BWI/IAD are generally considered co-terminals, that could potentially be deemed a third OJ. Could take a number of calls.

Drop one of your OJs to make it a more simple stopover or destination, get it ticketed, then sub in w/your desired segment instead...will go much easier this way

With all the changes to UA award rules... will my ticket price?

Hey all,

With all the changes recently on united awards, including number of segments each way, combining certain regions but not others, and all the unwritten rules united award tickets are subject to, I would love some feedback on if my proposed ticket is valid and will price like I think so I can call the united agent with some confidence.

I've researched tons of rules and ideas through various threads and blogs, and I think this itinerary is possible, at least based on posts from 6 months ago or longer.

I've verified that each segment has saver availability in the class of service for the flights below.

LAX to ICN departs 11:50AM 12/27/14 arrives 6:10PM 12/28/14 (Business)
ICN to BKK departs 9:35am 12/29/14 arrives 1:30PM 12/29/14 (Business)
BKK to AKL departs 6:45PM 12/29/14 arrives 12:05PM 12/30/14 (Business)
-Stopover-
AKL to NAN departs 6:50AM 1/14/15 arrives 8:55AM 1/14/15 (Economy - Single Cabin)
-Destination-
NAN to AKL departs 7:20PM 1/19/15 arrives 11:25PM 1/19/15 (Economy)
AKL to ZQN departs 10:15AM 1/20/15 arrives 12:05PM 1/20/15 (Economy)
ZQN to SYD departs 2:15PM 1/20/15 arrives 3:30PM 1/20/15 (Economy)
SYD to LAX departs 3:20PM 1/21/15 arrives 10:10AM 1/21/15 (Economy)

If rules from a few months ago are still true, this should price to be 110,000 miles RT (75k for business to oceania and 35k economy back)

However, based on recent rule changes or speculations, some questions that come to mind on if this is a valid itinerary include:

1. Is routing through Asia still possible to Oceania (or NZ)? I've read recent posts to the contrary but not sure how you find award space if not.

2. If you can route through Asia still, can you come in through asia and out through australia? (as described above)

3. Is the maximum number of segments 4 (3 connections) per direction on a RT award? I've read one recent post that mentions a limit of 4 connections/layovers including the stopover when going to Australia/NZ from CONUS. This also seems crazy to me, but someone may know more than me. If so, does the rule apply to Oceania as well?

4. Is there any issue with the "layover" between the last two flights? Technically it is under 24 hours, but barely.

Thanks for any feedback in advance! Assuming I can book this itinerary I would love to get it done tonight, before 4/1.

If this is not a valid itinerary, my only other thought would be to try and book a separate flight out to Tokyo and do Tokyo to Fiji RT with a stopover in NZ, or piecemeal an itinerary of 1 ways, but any feedback on rule changes for Japan/Oceania RT would be awesome!

I believe it is 4 connections each way for a r/t award.

There's quite a bit of discussion on this. The consensus seems to be that it depends on the agent you get.

Theoretically you can't transit Canada between a U.S. origin and destination. I don't know if they'll let you book that.

That award calendar is brutally bare. Good luck finding something that works!

Help with award booking MNL to SFO next month

Hello.

Trying to bring one family member for visit next month from MNL to SFO. UA award booking is tough to find the first 5 days of the month in May. Return would be 3rd or 4th of July. Can anyone help with inventive routing?

Award seats are all gone. Typical routings are

MNL-NRT-SFO or
MNL-GUM-NRT-SFO or
MNL-GUM-HNL-SFO

Saver Business/First Award on May 3rd.
MNL-TPE-LAX-SFO (EVA 272/EVA 2/UA 841)

Saver Global First award on July 4th.
SFO-NRT-MNL (UA 853/ANA 949)

Of course, you didn't say how many miles you have for this trip, but the above prices out to be 160K miles + $37.70

MP ECONOMY is this a valid rt stopover?

Part one of roundtrip

SFO-ZQN connect in Auckland

Open jaw

Return
CHC-MEL stop over in MEL
MEL-SFO

time is three weeks for start to finish
I checked o/w for each segment and shows open on the dates I want.
The system refused to book past SF-ZQN

What did I do wrong or misunderstand?

That's fine.

The website often chokes on multi-segment itineraries, particularly if you have an OJ. You could keep trying to book on-line or just call it in. My guess is you will have to call.
