Restricted advance seat assignments

I booked 2 seats for a trip in F that will include YVR-EWR via ORD for next August. When I try to assign seats I get an error message.

The aircraft are 320/319 and the seat maps show no assigned F seats yet. Reservation agent wasn't able to reserve the seats either. What's the typical reason for this restriction? Expectation of move to RJ or other aircraft swap? Seat map just not loaded in UA system yet?

I realize I can just keep checking back, but I would like to be sure to have 2 seats together.

Possible swap. Also if late August, seat maps are not always open even if flights can be sold (I think September 7th is the last I can even buy a ticket right now on UA, and end of August on google/flights).

I would just check back in a week. Nothing's going to happen that stops you from getting two in a row upfront.

Thanks. Didn't realize ability to buy ticket and reserve seat weren't simultaneous.

Perhaps it is found in that thread, but I had an interesting conversation with a GS agent telling me that seatmaps aren't finalized until something like 32X days out which is several days after tickets become bookable. I was booking for the first few days of september and while my GPU went through the agent couldn't assign me a seat yet.

Any thoughts on this:

Two days ago I booked SFO-LAS for Dec. 1 on one PNR. Then, SFO-LAS for Dec. 1 on another PNR.

We cannot assign seats.
On both records (I'm Platinum, wife is Gold), United.com shows "! Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight. Please select a seat during check-in."

Coming aircraft swap or what?
Currently it's a 757-300 outbound; A320 return.

The MileagePlus Premier desk said "give it a few days."
Odd, right?

! Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight. Please select a seat durin

Trying to assign FC seats for a flight EWR-DEN 11 months out.
Can not get a seat assignment. Get this error instead: ! Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight. Please select a seat during check-in.
A new IT surprise and delight?

At that far out it's somewhat usual for seat assignments to be restricted in anticipation of an aircraft swap/schedule change.

The "please select a seat during check-in" is slightly misleading -- if you check back periodically you should see seat assignments become available well before check-in (certainly by ~6 months out at the latest)

For my own curiosity, if you happen to check 3 days from now...please let us know if it has changed...

Question Award ticket seat reservations

I searched this topic but could not find any applicable information, so please excuse me if I missed something.

Long time AA flyer, so I am not very familiar with United.
Just snagged 2 business class tickets for next April. United FRA-IAH-DFW. In my record, it lets me select seats but does not save them. When I called United they told that I could not select seats for another 2 months since the flight is in 2018. Is that correct?

When in 2018? Seats for newly loaded dates are sometimes not bookable for a week or two.

Sort of. It should be a lot less than two months, but flights at the end of schedule sometimes cannot assign seats. I would check back from time to time online and it should sort itself out.

I was shocked to find a 12.5K one way Saver Award today which I grabbed, BDL/MSP for Saturday June 2 2018.

As usual during the booking I picked my seat. No seat showed up on the reservation so I picked my seat again and still nothing.

I called UA and they could not assign my seat either.

Is this something new for saver awards ?

I cancelled the reservation as I'm not going to get stuck in a middle seat in the last row for a flight I booked 11 months in advance.

The only thing I can think of is AA and DL don't have their schedules out to June 2 so maybe UA opens up flights but it's too early to pick seats and I may be able to pick seats next week. The agent said I can pick seats when I check in..

I'd quickly re-grab those seats. I've had the same 330-day-in-advance seat selection problem. The ability to grab specific seats will come in a day or so....
