Some common reasons for "Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight."
- Bookings made at begin of schedule (aka 330 or so days out) --
seatmap has not yet been released.Wait a week or two and seat selection should become available - Pending aircraft change
- Bookings made within 24 hours of flight will receive this message, check in for flight to select seats
What does "Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight" mean?

as it was same for me on award tix for goalie-parents booked in June for travel April, 2013 but the agent said to keep trying as the seat assignments should stick about a week or so after ticketing-I did and they did

Yup, still happening. Booked C class award tickets on UA MUC-ORD-LAX for 31 July '13 today, ticketing confirmed, but can't select seats. 
Will try to get seat assignments again in a few days/weeks.

. Just keep trying and it will eventually stick (but if not, and you get within 330 days, I would call)

What Does "ASA Restricted" Mean?
Booked award travel for next March for three. Seat assignments no issue on outbound, but can't get seat assignments on the return segments. The message is "Advanced Seat Assignment Restricted". I understand what it says, but have never seen this before, or know what/when I need to do something.
Has anyone seen this or dealt with this before?

If your return flight is outside of the 330 day (approximate) window, seats can not generally be confirmed...try again in a few days..more than likely the seats can be confirmed...The UA system online allows flights to be booked further out than actual seat numbers can be confirmed by appx 5-7 days or so...

I have seen this before when I booked a domestic trip (SFO-LAX) 330 days out. The listed equipment is just a placeholder. You will just need to check back every once in awhile to see if you can get your seat assignment to take.

Seat Selection Issues on United Metal Award Flight
Hi all,
Just booked an award flight in first class from BWI to OGG (connecting through LAX). I can go through the seat selection screens and pick seats but at the end of the process I get an error message that seat selection is unavailable. What's the scoop here? The flights are on UA metal, not a partner airline, and they're ticketed.

Seems daily non-stop plus an occasionally extra direct and sometimes non-stop on Sunday, occasionally no Saturday flights for September / October / November. Flight number is not always 307 for the non-stop and time of day of the non-stop varies significantly
