Some common reasons for "Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight."
- Bookings made at begin of schedule (aka 330 or so days out) --
seatmap has not yet been released.Wait a week or two and seat selection should become available - Pending aircraft change
- Bookings made within 24 hours of flight will receive this message, check in for flight to select seats
What does "Advance seat assignments are restricted for this flight" mean?

Booked a simple two segment J trip using miles a couple of days ago, all on United metal. Booking seems to be fine, and I got a receipt with a ticket number. It is for next June. Not quite end of schedule but somewhat close. Seat maps show wide availability, but it will not let me select seats. On desktop, I select but then it doesn’t stick. On app, it says seat selection not available.
Is this a common issue? If it just means they are unsettled about equipment or if bookings close to EOS don’t allow seat selection, no problem. I have never heard of that with United, but it is a thing with some other airlines. But if it suggests something not right with ticketing, I would like to get it resolved since I am happy about the itinerary and price.

I have a reservation I made today for Sunday on a mainline UA flight. Seat reservations were unavailable when I made it so I waited a few hours and checked back. Still an entirely greyed out seat map...

Could be a bumpy ride for UA travelers this weekend. Unfortunately, the Mrs. and I are but two of them.

If there is a thread please move it but I could not find it.
I booked a return flight in R. Outbound instant upgrade on the domestic leg (B) and able to book seats for domestic and TATL. However for the return I am unable to book either the TATL leg or domestic leg. I do not remember encountering this before. The flights are in November.
[Great prcing for the R fare - am finding that United has returned to the UA practice I experienced pre-COVID where flights nearly 11 months out are very reasonable priced for economy and PremiumPlus.]

It is not uncommon for seats not to be selectable for a few weeks at begin of schedule. Give it another week or two and they will be available.
