United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

The luggage will be checked through. The passenger will go through US customs and immigration at YYZ. Both the passenger and the goods must be admittable to the US even though the final destination is DEL. In other words, if the passenger needs a visa to enter the US, the necessary transit visa must be obtained in advance.

Two of us (no status) are traveling RDU-EWR-LHR tomorrow in PP, Friday May 3. RDU flight leaves at 6:45pm UA 274 to EWR estimated arrival 8:37pm. Then EWR-LHR UA 940 9:50pm to 10:10am.

I see the flight RDU-EWR was delayed today and maybe other days recently giving only a 30 minute connection in the same terminal C.

Edit: It looks like the connection went from 30 minutes to ZERO on tonights flight?

Im concerned about missing our LHR flight tomorrow. What is the best way to protect ourselves and get rebooked if we miss our EWR-LHR flight?

There seem to be PP seats left on the 11:00 pm flight to LHR. Ive heard that flight can be canceled and the plane used for an earlier flight in case of a delay of THAT flight arriving at EWR? Phone call? Smartphone app? Customer service desk?

Also if we end up on a later flight and weve already checked bags will they end up on the later flight or will we find them at baggage claim in London from the delayed flight?

Edit 2: So some flights from RDU go to Terminal A and the app says we have to go from A to C. Is the Airtrain the best way?

With no status, the app is probably the best way to get help during irrops. If you know ahead of time you will miss connection, I would at least try to call to see how bad the wait time is.
Most (all?) of the customer service desks at EWR are no longer staffed. They have a QR code you can scan to get connected to an agent instead. No idea how well that works.

You may end up with a choice of either sitting in regular economy or waiting a day (or more) to be accommodated in PP.

If you arrive in Terminal A, best to take the transfer bus to Terminal C. Quicker, and you do not have to re-clear security, etc.

OP - best advice I would give you is to get on an earlier flight to EWR from RDU -- yes you may end up spending hours in EWR for nothing -- but you won't have to stress about it so much -- until you try and buy a glass of wine from OTG.... Your flight arrives at a particularly challenging time for EWR -- and when they start having to cancel / delay fights into EWR you've already seen where that comes from -- place like RDU....

Call UA and ask if it is possible to be placed on an earlier flight to EWR so you don't miss your connection....

Most (all?) of the customer service desks at EWR are no longer staffed. They have a QR code you can scan to get connected to an agent instead. No idea how well that works.

You may end up with a choice of either sitting in regular economy or waiting a day (or more) to be accommodated in PP.

If you arrive in Terminal A, best to take the transfer bus to Terminal C. Quicker, and you do not have to re-clear security, etc.
Our connection is only 1h 15m. Is that enough time for the bus from A to C?

As another poster suggested Ill look at earlier flights.

P.S. My spouse, who travels more than me, is not concerned.

Yes that is plenty of time in normal conditions -- but as you have seen EWR isn't normal and they will delay the flights with less people -- like from RDU... As someone that lived in upstate NY I was very used to how EWR treated us fliers -- so I always took the earlier flight... Yes - I was the poster that suggested you get on an earlier flight -- do your best to do so as 75 minutes connecting to an international flight at EWR is risky from a non-hub....

Is the direct shuttle from EWR Terminal C to Terminal B (60s gates) still in operation? The latest terminal map at ual.com is quite confusing, as the line from C to B lies along what from B to A is the AirTrain. What it does say is that shuttle service C to A to B is provided.

Yes. It's the same shuttle as A, you only need to tell the driver you're getting off at B. Doesn't operate until 1330 or so.
