Most (all?) of the customer service desks at EWR are no longer staffed. They have a QR code you can scan to get connected to an agent instead. No idea how well that works.
You may end up with a choice of either sitting in regular economy or waiting a day (or more) to be accommodated in PP.
If you arrive in Terminal A, best to take the transfer bus to Terminal C. Quicker, and you do not have to re-clear security, etc.
Our connection is only 1h 15m. Is that enough time for the bus from A to C?
As another poster suggested I’ll look at earlier flights.
P.S. My spouse, who travels more than me, is not concerned.
