Hmm. Actually some encouraging news here atleast for PS flight.
Doing a dummy booking inquiry for SFO-JFK's tomorrow. Looking at the #'s for example UA760 tomorrow morning.. F8 ON8 O8 J3 R2 RN2 From the looks of this, it looks like "ON" is corresponding with F availability and R/RN with J. By the way, does anyone know the difference between R and RN? O and ON? |

I just updated my settings for flight status notifications. The confirmation page has headers for "Email notification delivery preferences" and "Phone cotidication delivery preferences". Hmm, cotidication, sounds vaguely French. :D

More boarding pass issues
Checked in for tomorrow's 3/5 UA#889 SFO-PEK. I am in BusinessFirst, my Boarding Group is still 5.
Group 5 – Priority boarding o MileagePlus® Explorer Card members o OnePass® Plus Card members I do have both of those cards. Could that be the reason that all my boarding passes show BG5? Earlier today, the GA at EWR would not let me board in BG1 even though my boarding pass has Premier 1K printed. She had to confirm that with a Red Coat. Shannon, can you please add this boarding pass issue to the list as well? Thank you. |
My friend and I each independently booked a F (O) award reservation tonight on the website LAX-SFO-HKG in June. LAX-SFO and SFO-LAX segments were only available in coach. In the past, i was able to call and waitlist for F on the coach segments on an all United Award itinerary.
Basically the CSR I spoke with said I "should" be able to do this, but the systems aren't able to do it now, and to "call back in a week". Certainly add this to the list of things that aren't working presently. The good news is that online search tools did show proper availability for 2 seats in F that my friend and I were both able to book on UA (although it didn't note as it did before on the initial search availability screen that some segments were in coach - found that out on the summary screen). Also the calendar shading showing saver availability isn't working properly. There were numerous dates showing no availability on the calendar that did indeed have availability once you selected a particular day and scrolled through the details. - T |
e-certificate issues
To UA Insider:
PMUA issued various e-certificates. However, after 3/3 we ran into some troubles. 20% off systemwide e-certificates are rejected; Dollar off e-certificates: now only allows round trip even though the T&C permits one-ways: 10. Valid Routing: Roundtrip or One way only. Circle trips, or trips with multi-city itineraries are not permitted. You must follow a permitted routing. Could you take a look? Thanks. |

No, he said it cleared PRE March 3.
Meaning the confirmed upgrade with seats which was in NF was moved to ON, but it doesn't matter as it had cleared. I had the same deal for an outbound flight tomorrow. No prob with check-in & BP. But this is for an already confirmed first seat. Waitlisted ON on a 2-class might well be a black hole, in terms of the upgrade going through. Though UA is working on a systematic solution, I called today to have a 2-class return flight that was waitlisted in ON switched to R. The agent was awesome and fixed it in about 30 seconds. |

I have a similar problem, in that we have a flight with NF seats that cleared on 3/2 and they're showing as ON; however now I need to change the flight dates. How can I get the flight changed back to the V fare, and to get the miles refunded, so that I can now use those same miles to upgrade the new flight dates?

if you cancel or change flight dates, your miles will be refunded. Canceling an upgrade without canceling / changing the flight might include a fee.
ps - also there is another itinerary (which we don't need to cancel) that shows ON instead of R for fare class, so that 150% PQM is given. Will we actually get the 150% PQM or will United realize that it should only be 100% PQM? |

Hi dmodemd, electronic certificates that were issued by United prior to March 3rd will be able to be used on united.com. You’ll be able to redeem these by entering your 18-digit certificate number (beginning with 1016) in the “Offer Code” box on the home page.
Shannon I tried two certificates (one for $200 and the other for $250). Although they seem to work for roundtrip, the new United.com refuses to accept them for one way. Can it be a bug in the system? Thanks a lot! EDIT: Just saw that kb1992 reported the same problem -- sorry for double-post, but just to give one more data point. |

Not true. The new system is modeled after the CO system and runs in sweeps at 24 hour intervals from flight time. So if you are within your window and see R>0, you may be upgraded the next time the system runs (at the next 24 hr window). This is different than the PMUA upgrade system where if you saw upgrade space in your window and weren't cleared, you could call in and get it cleared. The agents who tell you they can't do anything are correct. Those who bend the rules and force upgrades are allowing people to jump the queue and possibly bypass someone higher in priority than you.

Can we not search for star alliance segments on the new united? For some reason NZ flights do not come up...possibly just a conversion issue and waiting for the NZ link to come back??

Thanks - except that the reservation shows ON for the fare class, instead of "R" (indicating the upgrade). And the My Account for MileagePlus doesn't show miles being deducted for the upgrade. So I'm afraid that changing the flight dates won't give back the miles, and then we'll need to spend more miles to upgrade on the new dates...

Shannon, can you please add this boarding pass issue to the list as well? Thank you. I am Premier Gold (Group 3) and I hold the Presidential Plus (Group 4) and MP Explorer (Group 5) cards. I flew this itinerary on March 4: UA 5301 SEA-LAX UA 6445 LAX-TUS When I checked in online, my boarding passes said Group 3 (for Premier Gold). At the gate in SEA, my BP beeped, and the agents said that there was an "AFIS"/"AFUS" code, which I understood to mean that it thought I had connected from an international flight, even though my itinerary originated in SEA. When it finally got sorted out, I boarded with a BP that said Group 5 (and also showed Premier Gold). My original seat was listed, but the GA and FA both told me that there was only one seat available on the plane. it was far inferior, in the back next to the engines and lavatory. At the LAX UC, I asked the agent to double check my seat assignment. She printed a new boarding pass for me. It preserved my seat assignment but it showed Group 5. |
"Waitlisted for Coach (R)"
Anyone see this one? The upgrade I sponsored (3 class international) shows this. Something to call about?
