Upgrade request was gone (ok, no problem), RPU balance did not get credited (oops). Used RPU again on return legs, same status (waitlist 1st leg, confirm 2nd), one less RPU in the bank. No sign of the initial one.

1K agents don't seem to be of any help re upgrades. I called yesterday and just asked to be put on a waitlist using RPU; after 20 minutes, the agent could not figure out how to do this so I decided to give up. Online request did work, to the extent of showing me on a waitlist.

Does anyone know whether we can check the "R" inventory ourselves? Thanks.

But the problem remains - how will the mileage crediting system know the difference between the two ONs, one a free award ticket and the other an upgrade from a paid fare?

This post with explanation of various codes is very helpful.
So, as a 1K, I should be in the "RN" wait bucket rather than "R". Is there anyway to change this online? As I related earlier, 1K agent wasn't able to handle any RPU request at all. Thx.

Dear UAInsider,

I don't know if this issue has been brought up amongst the myriad of concerns/complaints, but ever since the cutover, the interactive voice response system (IVR) is a total pain. It needs to have the ability to recognize keypad entries in lieu of voice response.

The system recognizes my phone number from the database, and it asks to confirm if it is Luv2ctheworld. Either Yes or No in the form of a verbal response. It does not accept keypad entry (1 for Yes or 2 for No). The same issue applies when it is asking for the next question, domestic or international travel. Strangely, after that, keypad entries do work.

The biggest problem, and one that wasted a lot of time trying to connect to the 1K line is that the voice response doesn't pick up verbal responses well in a noisy background (like an airport, when I most need it). So the system winds up not recognizing my answer because its too noisy, and it won't accept my keypad entry, and dumps me into the general call line, with a wait time of 30+ minutes.

I have to find a quiet place somewhere to get connected (and the wait time was only a couple minutes on the elite line).

Passengers and security look at you funny after yelling into the phone really loud YES YES YES.

So, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get this to the appropriate people... it's probably a simple setting to change on the IVR system.

Thanks.

Having experienced this for the first time today (I had to call back 3 times to get working IVR), I don't think this is a "not recognizing 'yes'" issue, rather, it's that on some occasions the IVR system is not getting ANY input at all...as if your phone is on mute, or the software responsible has mini-crashed for your call instance.

Still very annoying. :)

Upgrade Awards
ON - C->F on 3-cabin aircraft
PN - B/M-Up for Elites (tracks to the P bucket)
RN - Elite Upgrade to Business/Domestic F
R - Non-Elite Upgrade to Business/Domestic F

But the problem remains - how will the mileage crediting system know the difference between the two ONs, one a free award ticket and the other an upgrade from a paid fare?

I will take CDG-ORD-SFO and all segments were upgraded by a GPU (SWU).
CDG-ORD shows R (Y->C)
ORD-SFO shows ON (Y->F)

Should both show RN? Do I need to call UA reservation to correct this???

My lifetime miles are out of balance and I have tried all combinations of potentially missing flights to identify the difference without success. Anyone else having issues? BTW, I have assumed that 500 mile minimum also applies to lifetime BIS calculation going forward.

Edit: Found the difference. Lifetime = 12/31 adjusted balance + current activity through 3/3 conversion date. Cut-off for 3/3 based upon date flight lands. (My LAX-SYD flight 3/2 - 3/4 not included in current total.)

Same issue here. Two flights on 3/4 are not included in my lifetime figure, though they are now correct in PQM and PQS.

Can't get through to customer support

The "call volume" issue has prevented me from getting through regarding an international flight I will be on later this month. What I need can't be resolved online, and so far I have made five phone calls to UA Premier customer support, beginning yesterday (March 9). I hung up after twenty minutes on hold (call #1), twenty-five minutes (call 2), fifty minutes (call 3), forty eight minutes (call 5), and seventy-one minutes (call 5). I will have to drive to O'Hare tomorrow (50 minute drive), park my car, and walk into the terminal in order to resolve this.

I can't understand why United didn't work the bugs out prior to the merging of Continental's and United's customer service.

Not quite resolved. The fare classes table is still labeled "Eligible Continental Airlines Fare Classes"

So, in the wonderful new world, about how far out are GPUs clearing for GSs on trans-Pac? I am on 804 Wednesday and it's Sunday here, about 80 hours out.

Try "telling" the IVR you are making a new booking, not calling about an existing itinerary. It seems to get you connected MUCH faster IME.
Good luck.

I wonder if I should call about a rez that should be R instead of ON. So i dont encounter mileage issues anymore. However it appears they are doing systematic updates to this as per Insider so I wonder if I should just leave it alone for now? I worry R availability won't be there if i leave it alone 4 too long

Z fare class segments not crediting PQS because changed to ON in system conversion?

Hi Shannon,

I tried asking this in the simple questions about UA/CO forum and it was suggested that i ask directly. This issue has also popped up for demkr and others, as evidenced by posts made to this thread March 9-10.

I have 2 reservations made on UA pre-merger that were upgraded well before March 3 from paid segments to the next cabin class, using miles and copay, and they are now showing up as ON fares. One of my trips has been completed already, and 2 of the 4 segments of it haven't posted their RDMs and PQMs yet. I think that this may be a unique issue, since the segments that remain uncredited are now (post-March 3) listed on the receipt as ON fare class, while the ones that remained Z fare class have posted and credited their miles properly. I do have my pre-merger receipt that shows all 4 segments as Z.

I researched the new fare classes, and ON is listed as BOTH an award class (first class award on a 3-cabin) AND a paid class (upgrade from paid business to first on a 3-cabin). How does UA "know" that in one case it should award RDMs/PQMs while in another it should not?

I sent a PM to UA Insider regarding this same ON issue with an coming upgraded itinerary. I have yet to receive a response. I'd like to know whether I need to call and get it rebooked in R or whether my miles will post correctly as ON.

I have sent a PM to UA Insider about my CPU case

I have a flight coming up next week. I am a 1K. Right before my 96 hour window, RN=9 and there were only 4 First Class seats taken out of 20 on the map. The day before, RN=9 and nothing changed, so no GS apparently got a First Class seat ahead of me, nor anyone with instruments, etc.

I have not been upgraded yet.

It is now less than 89 hours and still no changes.

I made the reservation as a CO Platinum on the CO website before the merger of systems. I have a new reservation # now and checked with 1K phone line to make sure the correct MP # was on the reservation.

There is also a regular MP member on the reservation with me...just the 2 of us.

I have sent a PM to UAInsider with this information, my flight #, confirmation #, MP number, etc.

The return flight is the next day and all First Class seats show up on the seat map as available with RN=9. It has been RN=9 for several days now. No GS got a seat today, as far as I can tell, so I will see what happens tomorrow with the CPU for the return flight.

I will report back, and perhaps UAInsider will also respond to this post.

As a former CO Platinum, I used to get my Elite complimentary upgrades almost exactly 5 days out from my flights using the former CO EUA computer upgrade system.

I hope that my reporting my case to UAInsider will help to solve the problems UA is currently having with the CPU upgrades within the upgrade windows.

Also, are we going to encounter any issues with PS flights confirmed in United Business (R)? My understanding is R is not the appropriate fare class in this case? If someone can let me know if this is also an issue, please do

amartin, The same thing happened to a second res of mine, made on UA in February. I had a SFO-DEN itin on a 2-cabin A320; outbound B fare and return Y fare. Both segments upgraded from E cabin to F cabin immediately; had showed up correctly as NF (upgraded from paid econ or biz) PMUA, and got migrated over as ON! That ON shouldn't have even happened on this res, as that is allegedly only for upgrades or awards on a 3-cabin.

It seems that the NF code has been migrated over as ON for several people, and it's likely that PQMs won't get credited. I'm guessing that we do need to call to correct it, but let's see if UAInsider picks it up. I don't relish several hour hold times and multiple disconnects, especially if people who are traveling need to call to get help.

Stay strong brother :cool:
