Newest Travel Bank program
New UA "Travel Bank" option -- deposit funds and get a bonus

{UA} we’ve decided to discontinue the program as of April 23, 2019.
In particular, the united.com Club
united.com Club

As we keep evolving the digital experience for our travelers, we’ve decided to discontinue the united.com Club. If you’re a current member, there are a few things we hope you keep in mind.

If you booked any trips before the end of your current membership, we’ll credit any united.com Club benefits to your TravelBank after you’ve completed your trip.

5 April 2018 -- UA started posting an "expiration date", appears to be at least 18 months after most recent activity (some are longer for unknown reasons)
also states
Some of your United®TravelBank Cash may expire on a different date than what’s displayed here. Please check your balance details for a complete history of your United®TravelBank Cash transactions and the expiration date for each amount.
Expiration had previously been in the T&Cs for some time (2 years of inactivity? but now is 18 months) and had stated an ETC would be issued if the funds did timeout. Unclear if that still applies.

The Gift Registry has been disabled since Fall 2017 (Sept?) (appears this may be related to a tax issue?)
As of 5 May 2018, it still states
We're sorry, our gift registry page is currently unavailable for maintenance. You can still use the funds from your gift registry to book travel during this time, but you will not be able to receive contributions or update your registry details. We expect the page to be up and running again in early 2018.
Around Sept 2018, wording changed to
We're sorry, our gift registry page is currently unavailable for maintenance. You can still use the funds from your gift registry to book travel during this time, but you will not be able to receive contributions or update your registry details.

2) Maybe for UA!

More dumb questions...

Can you earn TravelBank points if you click to book from Google Flights on UA's website? One of the routings I am looking at requires a non-UA / non-partner flight, so I would not be able to search the actual routing itself on UA.com originally.

As long as purchased on united.com logged into your MP account, you should be fine.

I have noticed some discrepancies on what qualifies and what doesn't.

A couple of times, I have had to call in to have a ticket reissued (typically due to irrops waivers in place), and never got credit--it was like something the phone agent did "disconnected" the ticket as being booked online. A quick note to the MP Service Center has always resolved this, though.

Most recently, I had 3 tickets booked from my account: a roundtrip revenue ticket for me; a one-way revenue ticket for my wife; and a one-way award ticket for my wife.

After the outbound portions were flown, I received $10 in TravelBank credits. The only thing I can figure is that the day before, I upfared my wife's ticket, and somehow got two credits for her one-way itin?

After the return, I got $5 more (the round-trip posting for my revenue ticket, as expected). I did not get $5 for my wife's award ticket (also as expected, though there have been times I've received them for awards, too).

So I did a gift registry to my mate account for $100, it shows current balance $100 but the available balance is $0. How long does it takes for it to get update so she can use it?

Travel Bank Question

Does Travel Bank/gift registry purchases count as airfare for the united mileage plus explorer card earning double miles? Also the website was a little vague but I assume you can buy multiple tickets using the money from the travel bank as long as it is within 2 years? Is that a correct understanding?

I'm not sure about your first question as I've never personally added money to my travel bank using my UA CC.

As to your second question the answer is yes. During the payment process (when using the website only, I don't see a way to use the travel bank on the mobile app) one of the payment options is to use travel bank funds. It tells you your available travel bank balance and then you can select however much of that you wish to use. It is very easy and is essentially a discount of up to the max of your balance on your flight(s). You can use it for multiple tickets on one itinerary. You can use it to discount/purchase a ticket for someone else (as long as you book from your account) and you can use it to purchase multiple tickets at different times.

If you fly United enough to cover the $25 p/yr fee then it is a no brainer as you even get $5 for tickets you book for others.

UA refused to issue the credit after several emails to Oscar and one DOT complaint (actually, they never responded). So that should give you some idea as to your odds

On the bright side, UA hasn't changed the T&C.

Was it booked completely online with not agent involvement? And not changes by an agent?

Beleive not - it is considered a fee

Yes. With every united.com ticket purchased, united.com Club members will earn a 5.00 USD credit to their TravelBank. https://www.united.com/web/en-US/app...onditions.aspx

Not sure why you complained to the DOT - they're not going to care about an issue like this. Unless you can provide the DOT regulations that covers items like the the United.com Club.

Did you try emailing someone below Oscar's level at UA - starting with customer care. Doubt this is an issue the executive office will get involved in, especially if there hasn't been an attempt to resolve below first.

Is there any indication that an award ticket is supposed to be eligible for United.com club credit in the first place. I would assume not, just like you don't earn miles on award tickets.
