Yes how very annoying that you might actually have to use the card/account which you hope to have comped to you.

starflyergold Jun 18, 2012 10:56 am

Considering that TK currently experiencing a huge wave of ex bmi *Gs trying to status match it may very well be that they have introduced a "challenge": credit some miles, any miles and we'll send you the card.

Given that UA, US and AC have status match challenges which are significantly more demanding it would only seem fair.

Again this may only be a speculation on my part, they may try to reduced the numbers of those who just want to get domestic US lounge access for 2 years but have no intention to credit to TK M&S.

And I fully support them if that is the case.

Maybe the carpetbaggers will also then realize that TK miles only have a shelf life of 3 years and that it is a losing proposition for them.

Fair point, though it's annoying that they would change the rules in the middle of the game (without telling anyone what the rules are).

I'm sure we've all had the exprience of getting bad information from a CSR, or calling one guy who says no, only to call back the next woman and she says yes. That doesn't help anybody. Whatever their rules are -- lax, stringent, whatever -- they should make them clear and follow them.

I've credited 7210 status miles to TK since applying for the status match and I'm still waiting for anything more than the "forwarded to relevant department" email. :)

As I said, it could be the case that they want to see miles credited, or maybe it is just unpredictable. Wouldn't be the first airline that is inconsistent :D

Crimson, other than special event matches, and unofficial reports on FT, can you please cite for us all of the airlines that you know of that have EVER formally published their match criteria.

I'm still waiting for an answer, but in case my status match does go through, did the rep say flight activity or just some mileage activity such as maybe buying miles?

Update: I just received the "Please be informed that your request about Status Match has been forwarded to the related department" email. My request was sent on June 6.

+1. I'm presuming that most of the people who are getting status matched will not be stepping aboard a TK flight in the future?

T&C of M&S, section 2

2.1 Card Delivery: A Miles&Smiles Membership Card is sent to the Member once after a flight on Turkish Airlines or any of Star Alliance Member Airlines.
A full kit that includes baggage tags and membership guide is sent to the member after the member qualifies for Classic Plus membership status by collecting 25.000 status miles within 12 consecutive months.
The Membership Card is not sent to the Member who has no registered activity. The member can use his/her temporary membership card until receiving the original one.
Normally cards are not sent until there is activity in the account. A comped card may very well abide by the same rule.

And for those who are asking for "consistency"... TK did not even know what a status match was a few months ago. Just read a bit up-thread. To me it seems a bit presumptious to complain about "changed rules"

starflyergold Jun 19, 2012 7:33 am

Well spotted intuition ^ (and definitely not unreasonable)

crimson12 Jun 19, 2012 10:17 am

Fair enough, and as said, definitely not unreasonable.

Will the temp card get one into *G lounges?

Probably not, nor should it for those who have no intention of crediting any miles to their account let alone actually flying the carrier.
