Is Global Entry worthwhile?

Inside back cover for me -- from JFK.
I used GE yesterday at SFO coming in from PEK. 30 seconds, flat. The CPB agent at the adjacent booth even turned around and said, "Welcome home!" Right behind me was my flight's captain. He says it saves him from being stuck behind international crew members on the crew line, who must go through the whole fingerprinting process.

There is a definite big push by the government to significantly grow the percentage of the traveling public that participates in the program and uses the system. Global Entry is likely to have a better and better maintained future than some related and/or previous types of immigration/customs fast-track type programs.

Just came in last Saturday with somebody else from work at IAD. We both had GE and nobody else was at the machines.
One interesting thing though is that it worked way better with my green card then his passport. He got attachment pages in it and its a little older and he did even change machines to make it read.

Took minutes, because I'm a NEXUS holder. That said, since the background stuff is all the same, I would venture to guess that it takes the same 7-10 days that we see from NEXUS.

I think Global Entry is worthwhile. The program works as advertised, the cost is moderate (just compare the 100 Euro per year for the Dutch counterpart), and the enrollment is reasonably simple. I have good hope that renewals will be even easier, ideally without an extra enrollment center visit.
PS: Since that question was raised a couple of times, here is a quote from the news section of the GOES login page regarding passport renewals/replacements:

I applied on November 12th, and was conditionally approved on November 19th. Had my interview at the MCO office and was out of there in under twenty minutes..

FWIW - I used Global Entry for the first time for entry into ORD from AMS on Friday. I am a Nexus user who applied and got instant approval into Global Entry. It worked fine.
Since I had some time to kill I stopped by the CBP office and got the sticker that people have been talking about. I simply said "I need the Global Entry sticker" and they took my passport and got it for me...took about five minutes.
^
Now I only wish that the EU programs would be available to Global Entry participants at now extra charge...(Privium, etc.)

I applied on Jan 24, and have not received approval yet.
I checked the website daily and it shows "pending".
Does it usually take this long?

Seems like doing Global Entry the direct way is taking longer, in addition to being more expensive. Given the experiences of those of us with NEXUS, if you live anywhere near the Canadian border or will be in Canada anytime soon, you are better off just getting NEXUS. Cheaper, more versatile, quicker turn around and automatic approval.
