Thanks! That's a long way from Terminal 1. There is some kind of air train or something to take over there? I've never been over there before.

Red line is the Airport Transit System connection between terminals (outside security).

Using Global Entry with CDN passport, NEXUS and Green Card

Hi Collective Wisdom:

I have a newly minted NEXUS card and "upgraded" it to Global Entry. I am a Canuck living in the cornfields of Illinois (CMI) with a Green Card. Will be coming back from Korea end of February (first international trip of the year). Looking forward to trying out GE when I get back (ORD). Some newbie GE questions:

1. Should I worry about not having the famous sticker? I got my GE via the GOES website.
2. Do I use my CDN passport or my Green Card or both to operate the kiosk?
3. Any other words of advice?

Cheers and safe travels,
DocD

1. Don't worry about it. I've used GE many times and have never been asked to show my sticker. Incidentally, I'm in the same boat as you--a NEXUS member who got GE membership via GOES. I went to a CBP office to pick up my sticker and the officer almost giggled at me as he handed a couple over. It made me think that they don't really check for them, and IME, they haven't.

2. You should insert only your Green Card into the GE kiosk.

3. Press HARD when the machine is taking your digital fingerprints; otherwise you'll have a longer wait to get a good capture.

4. Relax! Enjoy!

Today, after handing the CBP agent my slip, he looked at it and looked at something on his desk and then told me to just go through, but his tone was more like he was doing me a "favor". It only took 30 seconds extra. Is it possible he is new and has never seen a GE slip? [Also, my flight from ZRH arrived at the tail end of a flight from somewhere in Central or South America (one could see this from the pax) and maybe he didn't expect pax from my flight to get to the last step in the CBP area so soon.)
CBP verifies the validity of your receipt with a check digit that is changed several times during the day.

Have you used yours since you did this, and did it work without checking in with an office?

My next 2 INTL returns are on Sundays, and the offices are closed according to the website.
I've used the new passport twice since adding it in GOES. No problems. ^

Under normal operations, the sticker is not needed. However, as has been posted in this thread a couple of times, when the kiosks malfunction or spit out an X receipt, having the CBP sticker is what allows you to skip to the next available CBP processing station without having to go to the back of the line.

FWIW, I didn't even need my sticker when I got the 'X'. I just showed the paper with the X.

Thanks for the helpful data points! (re; GE,Green Card, CDN passport and "stickers")

I have a 3 hour layover at ORD prior to my NRT outbound flight. Since I am a nicotine addict, I will be going outside security anyway so I think I just might head over to T5 to see about getting "stickerized" if for no other reason than I like stickers!

Will report back on my experiences when I get home from Korea.

Thanks again Collective Wisdom.

Cheers and safe travels all,
DocD

FWIW, I was asked to show my passport at customs specifically to see CBP sticker in it this week for the first time (ORD). He told me that I "should always hold my passport open to that page when handing in the customs slip" because they have to verify that. Dozens of exits so far, that was a new one. With some officers going rogue out there, it might be good advice for folks to make sure they go by and get the sticker.

This morning I looked into the Privium/FLUX thing and it appears that in order for me to get a Privium card that I'd have to pay literally hundreds of Euros to sign up and a couple of hundred Euros per year to maintain my membership. If Germany is the next country to join FLUX, am I to assume that I'd have to pay hundreds of Euros for their program as well? Seems like a cost model that could quickly require many hundreds of Euros per year to have FLUX access to all of the EU countries that I visit regularly.
I don't know how the German system will work, but I can say for the Dutch one (Privium), it's a bit of a let down. The set-up is all a piece of cake. The issue is that when you go through the Privium entrance/exit, if you have a US passport, it is designed to automatically send you to the immigration officer every time since you need a stamp in your passport. Unfortunately, that is the same protocol as it uses for someone who fails the iris scan for example. In my limited experience, it almost feels like you get more scrutiny as a result (or at the least, you feel like you get the big "X" every time you go through). It does allow you to cut to the front of the line for sure, but the whole screening, iris scan, etc. seems to be a big exercise with out much purpose since you still go to an officer every single time by design. And it ain't cheap - currently 115/yr.

I hope the German system will be better. They need to find a way around the passport stamp issue.

My sticker is on the back cover of my pp: "CBP" is all it reads.
Is your sticker inside the pp?
