My GE membership will expire the same day as my Sentri card. The process was extremely easy since it did not require me to go anywhere-- all was done through GOES. Membership in Nexus is also available through the GOES site for current Sentri holders for $50 USD.

For $179 you get 5 years of:

*Sentri access: fast-pass land access to the US when coming from Mexico
*Nexus access: fast-pass air/land/maritime access to/from Canada
*Global Entry: fast-pass access to the US when arriving from international location.

But at some time you had to have your fingerprints and passport entered into the system (from the other programs you are enrolled in.)

Good to know! I'm a NEXUS member who got GlobalEntry membership for free. It's nice to know that I could get SENTRI membership for a discount.

I am just wondering how GE works for the Dutch citizens that are covered by FLUX? AFAIK the GE kiosks only read US passports or green cards. How do these machines work for the Dutch GE participants? Do they only get a CBP sticker on their passport to get in front of the line, or can they actually use the kiosks?
Does anyone know?

As far as I understand it they will only have to slide their passport in the machine and it reads the MRZ on there passport.

As I've used the kiosk, I can confirm that it will happily read a Dutch passport (since it reads the machine coded lines on the photo page). You then do the fingerprinting, photo and answer the customs questions, and it will spit out 2 pieces of paper:

1. The customs receipt that you hand in at customs
2. A departure record to hand in to the airline when you leave the US.

The process is quick and it even saves your passport from getting stamped. (On my first try, it was so easy that I stood there for a second with my two pieces of paper and a confused look on my face. The immigration officer looked at me, saw my papers, and said, 'You're all done!'. Brilliant system!)

Cheers,

Thanks, GenevaFlyer!
It sounds like the departure record replaces the green Visa Waiver stub that you used to get. Do you still need to enter the first address in the US or has that been eliminated with GE?

Let me double check on Monday, but I'm pretty sure that that information is not asked for.

Cheers,

A couple of questions about GE

1. I understand it is good for 5 years. If my passport expires within 5 years, is it transferrable to a new passport without fee or hassle?
2. At the end of the 5-years, is there an opportunity to renew at less than full price?

I can only answer one and I believe yes its free all you have to do is change your passport information on GOES or call a GE office and I believe they will update your information on your profile. I don't know if anyone has yet had to renew GE yet I could be wrong.

I believe Global Entry has only been around for a few years, so it is possible that nobody has reached the renewal stage in their membership... However, it is possible that the program has been around for a longer period of time and I just don't remember...

I know that a program called INSPASS existed, but was canned in 2002 when INS merged with CBP..

Yes, all you have to do is go to a GE enrollment center or log on to GOES. There is a link that says "Update Documents" in the top left corner that should let you add that info...

It only started less than 2 years ago so no one has yet reached the renewal stage.

Update on DC: after landing yesterday went to kiosk the noticed that there was a dedicated lane for handing in the receipt!^ The CBP officer said that it was only a recent change and I joked that when I first stated using Global Entry the officers didn't even know what the printout was. He laughed and agreed.

This was another step in the right direct of this great program.

When you have a very long distance but very short duration trip (e.g., MR where you flew 5,000+ miles and then back in the course of 2 days), does CBP give you guff about it?

Two of their standard questions are "purpose of your trip?" and "how long were you out of the US?". If the answers were "pleasure" and "2 days", I could see them getting an attitude and giving you lip about it. What has your experience been and how do you handle it?

I am due to go through IAD for the first time in a few weeks. Are the kiosks easily seen or tucked away?
Thanks

1. Yes. You can add/delete documents on the GOES website.

2. Why would there be? Sort of analogous to asking if, when your car registration expires, can you renew at a discount, isn't it?
