The old GOES system didn't have the popup specifying that a refusal of entry is considered an immigration violation, so I never thought to answer "YES" to that question when I applied under GOES. I guess when I reapply again in 2022 I will have to answer "YES" now that I know, but answering "NO" in the past didn't hurt me. I have had two refusals of entry into the US, both before 2001.

Name change question for you:

If my wife has changed her last name on her Canadian drivers license, but not on her Canadian Passport or Nexus Card is she still able to use Global Entry/Nexus to travel under her old last name?

Where do you change the employment information on the new website? I'm completely lost.

It doesn't change my eligibility for the program (which is the case where it was mentioned you HAVE to update this info) but I'd like to be up to date.

Additional fees to process NEXUS renewal

I have a question about renewing my NEXUS membership. I applied online, paid the fee, filled out the application and submitted everything.

A day later I receive a suspicious email from the Immigration Visa and Travel Services (IVT) department telling me I have to pay a $50 CBP fee for background and security check to renew my NEXUS account. It also indicated the payment can only be made using PayPal.

Has anyone received this type of email from IVT? Do you know if it is legitimate? Sounds suspicious.

Welcome to FT. It is highly unusual having to pay additional fee. Did you apply through a 3rd party website instead of https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-t...rograms/nexus?

NEXUS Renewal

I applied via the CBP site which looks like the real site.

See below, the full email message I received from the IVT.

"Thank you for your renewal application for the NEXUS Card Program.

We are unable to process your application because we have not received the IVT service fee via PayPal.

If you have not yet paid the IVT service fee, please follow the link below to be redirected to the payment page.

American applicants, please click:
(the system wont let me post the link)

Canadian applicants, please click:
(the system wont let me post the link)

If you have submitted more than one application to us, you must make a separate payment for each application.

The IVT service fee is the fee payable to Immigration, Visa & Travel Services for checking your application form, setting up your NEXUS profile, submitting your data to Customs and Border Authorities in Canada and the USA for background and security checks and arranging your NEXUS interview.

The $50 CBP fee for background and security checks will be taken directly from the credit card you provided on your application form. (Child applicants are exempt from this fee).

Please note: We cannot take the IVT service fee from your credit card; it MUST be paid via a PayPal account.

If you have already paid your service fee, please let us know the PayPal transaction ID so that we can match it to your application.

If you paid the IVT service fee using someone else's PayPal account or using a different name or email please let us know the exact details.

If you have any questions regarding your application, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Once we receive your payment we will process your application and send you email confirmation when it is submitted to the US Customs & Border Protection and the Canadian Border Services Agency.

Kind Regards,

Ruth Logan

You applied via a non-government, third-party website.

That's understandable, because a Google search for "nexus apply", "nexus renewal", or similar phrases lists this IVT company's results right next to the official TTP site.

For example, with "nexus renewal", TTP is 5th down the page. Just above it -- 4th on the page -- is the site you probably used "usa.immigrationvisaforms.com" -- which is run by this IVT company.

https://i.imgur.com/AyobE2z.jpg

(The official TTP site is unfortunately ranked 5th because of the transition last month from a different government website called GOES.)

You get similar results with "Nexus apply", etc.

You've already provided this company with all your personal information and ID card numbers.

Will they sell your personal information or commit identity theft -- seems rather unlikely. Their whole company scheme is to rank highly in Google searches for these types of things, and then collect a "service fee" for just forwarding the information to government agencies.

Do you trust the security of their information databases? People on here will probably tell you to keep an eye out on your credit report, etc.

The question is whether you'll just go ahead and complete the transaction through them, or start over with the official TTP website.

Immigration Visa and Travel Services is a dead give away as a 3rd party.

If I were you, I would apply directly with https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-t...programs/nexus since you have to pay $50 anyway.

My wife just got her renewed Nexus card last week and she's been having problems getting the RFID to scan heading into the US via car. At first the counter wasn't counting but CBP officer told her it did scan and sometimes the counter is broken. Now it doesn't even scan at all. On the way back the card scans fine with the Canadian side.

Did they change the RFID tech recently in the cards? Anyone else experience this issue with their new cards? Or is her card just defective?

Are you holding both cards in your hand at the same time when scanning? I'd say about half the time when I do that, one of the cards isn't detected. I just hand the cards to the officer, no problem.

She's just travelling on her own so it's just her card. This started happening with her new card they sent after her renewal.

The first and only time I got to use my card in the lanes was at Buffalo in late August and it didn't scan for me either. After 30 seconds of fumbling around on my motorcycle trying to get it to scan I just pulled up and handed the agent my card. Only used the card about two or three times before then so it's not even close to being worn out.

Has anyone found any clever workaround on the new kiosks? The new kiosks require all food to be declared (at least at YYZ), so now your chocolate bar means you get to sent to secondary. When we were filling out the customs forms, it was only nuts, meat, etc. that had to be declared. There was no one in secondary today so I fast, but this could be a nightmare to wait in line to declare some chocolates for a gift or something - in fact it would be longer than NOT using Nexus because any officer would clear you with the chocolates.

If it is for US pre-clearance, that's true for all GE kiosks that I've used in the past year. Please discuss this topic in the following thread:
