ALso what was your experience with the interview with a younger person and using NEXUS with the younger person?

Our youngster (2 years) was approved and has his own Nexus card -- sans iris scan.

According to both US Customs and CBSA who work in the YYZ Nexus office:
- no iris scan is required for infants (or for visually impaired people) because they wouldn't be able to use the machines anyway
- when travelling with them, you can still bypass the line by using the crew lane

BUT ... on a recent trip ...

1. the US Customs officer in YYZ T1 customs hall totally contradicted his co-workers. He told us that our son - without an iris scan - should never have been admitted to the Nexus program in the first place (I think this guy must have missed a memo or something). Plus he also told us that no iris scan at the machines = you need to stand in the full, long (i.e. non-crew) line for inspection. He was totally wrong on both counts, but you can't exactly argue with these guys -- they're judge, jury and executioner so there's no point in trying.

2. Air Canada FAs don't seem to know why people are standing in "their" line, nor do they care. When we were waiting, two went out of their way to walk right around us and assume the front of the line -- without so much as a peep (much less an "excuse me for butting in")

3. On our return, the CBSA officer seemed equally confused (but, unlike the U.S. guy, unconcerned) about why we were using the crew lane

Please let me know (as I was not 100% sure).

We are expecting our first in May and I want him or her signed up right away!

Sign up right away. No need to wait for baby's passport. You can apply online via GOES with only a birth certificate. I had my most recent enrolled in NEXUS at 32 days old...

Complete BS. I have 2 kids in NEXUS without IRIS scan. No problem at all to use the crew lane. If the CBSA agent does not have the right info just ask for a supervisor in a calm and pleasant manner. I would AVOID getting an IRIS scan until the kids are older. I could see a 5 or 6 yr old throwing a tantrum at the wrong time. At enrollment time the Canadian agent at YUL was very excited about trying to get my 2yr old's eye scanned. I told her that I refused to try. That's was it.

Got pulled aside by US in YVR today, said my drivers licence was new since I got nexus. Showed him my DL he noted this info into a computer & said I had to go & get this info updated at both offices before my next crossing.

He said no interview required. Seems silly that he could not update the info while he was making notes in my profile.

Also equally silly is that you can't simply log onto GOES and update this information yourself...

Uniformed crew is generally accepted at the front of such lines (airport security, customs marked crew lane), however, a sign here may make it plainer for those like yourself who cannot conceieve of this common-sense strategy especially in light of this relatively new program. After all, I'd rather be invited to use the crew line and respect their priority screening rather than be directed to rejoin the main line.

Just getting back into 08 mode and my brain is not there.

I am about to board YYZ_LGA and I have a feeling that I did not totally fill in my US address information

Do I not worry because I did not get a secondary, or visit the nexas office when I get home, or call?

Thank you for any info

same card?

Can the card used at the airport be used in the Nexus lanes at land border crossings that offer the service.

While I believe you are required to carry the (same) card when at the airport, you don't actually use it. The kiosk IDs you from the iris scan. You need to hold up the card for a land crossing.

Same card is used. At the land border it uses an RFID signal. At the airport you keep it in your pocket and wink at the machine instead. But be sure to have it with you. If the machine is down having the physical card is key to be able to use the special services desk and avoid the long lines...

I have my two kids registered (5 years and 1.5 years). My younger one was not able to sit still long enough to Iris scan, so they put a sticker on the back stating no iris scan.

This seems to actually work against me, since my youngest cannot use the machine, we all have to go to the desk. But at least we can use the Special Services desk and they asked me no questions at all except where we were coming from. (Coming into Canada).

I asked if my wife, myself and my other child should use the nexus machine and then come up to the desk for the youngest - they said dont bother.

So kind of stupid they dont have the means to a put the card into the machine with a pin or something for cases like my youngest.

Had a good experience with the Calgary Nexus office, Canadian immigration side today. I needed to add some information to my profile (UK passport number).

I was standing outside the door trying to find the hours of operation which were not posted. Just as I was about to leave, one of the Canadian staff saw me as she was coming in with a load of baggage and asked what I needed. She said they open at 9 AM (it was only 8:30 AM) but when I told her what I needed, she said to come on in. I helped her push the bags through the door and she took care of my file update

^ Nice to see above and beyond service by what look to be overworked staff these days^

Nexus Process at YYZ

Since I generally fly out of YUL on direct flights to the US and use nexus I know what to expect. On sunday however I will be flying YUL-YYZ-PHX and return on Tuesday PHX-YYZ-YUL since AC does not fly YUL-PHX direct. Therefore I will be using Nexus for the first time at YYZ. Anybody care to share some information on the procedure and locations of the Nexus terminals at YYZ? Any information would be of great help :)
