My Nexus expired March 28, 2021 and on April 5 I applied again (sadly, I missed out renewing by a week, I know).

I'm now conditionally approved pending an interview but have some questions:

1) while conditionally approved can I use Nexus or no?

2) I am supposed to schedule an interview over the next two years but there is not ONE interview slot for the next 24 months either virtually or near me

3) can I just walk into the Blaine center (i might be going there anyway for something else soon) and do my interview?

Please help!

CBSA is not doing any interviews until further notice.

ok so that explains the nonavailability. What about #1? Can I use the NEXUS lane while conditionally approved?

Probably not. If you apply for renewal before expiration, you get an extension in coverage (12 or 24 months).

Nexus cards are in a special situation. Because it involves Canada and Canada’s pretty much shut down they said until I think July. And yea all calendars for setting up appointments say it’s booked up because they blocked everything off.
I have been conditionally approved since December 2019. My interview is scheduled for the beginning of February 2020 and of course everything got closed.

conditionally approved just means you’ve passed stage one and you can go to the interview. then once completed the interview you can use the Nexus card. as you said you missed the date so as far as a concern is the brand new card and you’re in a similar situation like me who has never had a card before. So keep watching the news about how Covid is acting up in Canada and when we see them talking about opening up the borders again then we can know that this process for the Nexus card can start again (I hope ).

The big issue as you can see is they continually conditionally approving brand new Nexus card holders and existing mixing car holders and there’s a big backlog of conditional approval’s needing appointments. it will be very interesting to see how they handle this once the floodgates open up

Helpful, so sad I missed renewing by a WEEK!

BTW I am a US Citizen currently in Canada near the US border, and am going back and forth a bit, so it is relevant for me right now.

Appreciate the response!

Not sure where you are located but NEXUS lanes at many border crossings are closed going into Canada.

Just curious, with the border officially closed to all but necessary travel, how are the entry lines these days in each direction?

tennisboy Apr 29, 2021 9:57 am

Empty!

Also, is there a reason why my Global Entry doesn't show up at all on my TTP profile when I log in?

I called CPB and got some clarity:

I had applied for GE, got it, and then applied for Nexus.

My orig GE expired in 2019 but it was kept bc I had Nexus

Nexus didn't renew me as a NYS resident in 2020

I missed the auto renewal by a week

So now I am like a new applicant with no Nexus, no GE, no PreCheck....and yes, Nexus is all closed for now so no appointments for me.

Learn from my mistakes everyone!

That's not exactly right.

You applied and were approved for GE. Later, you applied and were approved for Nexus. Your GE membership was automatically cancelled on the day you were approved for Nexus. Nexus INCLUDES GE so for your travel purposes you didn't know your standalone GE membership was cancelled - because Nexus includes GE.

See the above thread - you can only have ONE of these two programs: GE or Nexus. It is not possible to ever have both. Whichever is the most recently approved membership automatically cancels the other.

Are you saying that if I get approved from Nexus I can't get GE???? But when I had GE i also had Nexus, for 6 or 7 years. I'm genuinely confused now.
