I applied yesterday (Nov 11), got the approval email today (Nov 12) at 18:00.
But I need to have an interview.

Only interview availalbe is Dec 10 at International Falls. Is there any word on when the Detroit Center will reopen?

At least I have a year to schedule, and a year beyond my expiration date get it done (I expire June 2021, so have until June 2022 I believe).

Not sure when the Detroit Center will or did reopen for GE interviews, but NEXUS interviews likely won't be available until after the US/Canada border reopens. Need to interview with both US and Canadian border agents and these agents are not currently crossing the border to the other's offices for NEXUS interviews.

Jan 28/20 submission

Approval received Nov 16/20...no interview required.

My husband has a Canadian passport, USA PR card, lives in California, and applied for his 2nd NEXUS renewal ~10 weeks ago. His application is still pending. Note: on his first renewal ~5 years ago, he had to schedule an interview, but then they renewed him before the interview took place.

I only have a USA passport, live in Texas, and applied for my 2nd NEXUS renewal a couple of days ago. Mine was renewed the next day with no interview required. On my first renewal, I scheduled and had an interview. (Back then, I think we renewed at the same time, but he had to schedule his interview further out, as he wasn't going back to Canada for awhile, so he had a larger window for his renewal to sit.)

Except for living separately and the difference in our citizenship, we have the same international travel, except that he goes back to Canada more frequently than I do, which should be moot. I guess the other thing is that I have been living in Texas for a long time and he moved to California about 4 years ago. I could even get more trivial with occupations and such, but it is odd that his in limbo (like many others) and mine was turned around in 1 business day.

Is it possible Canadian citizens are waiting longer?

Don't Forget to Activate Your Nexus Card

I got my Nexus renewal a few months ago, with a new card in the mail. On a trip to Canada last month the border official told me that my card was inactive, and that I needed to go onto the GOES web site to activate it. Sure enough, when I logged in it said the card was inactive. One click activated it. So don't forget to activate your new card once you receive it in the mail.

Birds of a feather!

Applied for renewal in early February 2020.
Approved: December 11, 2020.

No interview required.

My husband applied for renewal (I did on his behalf) at the same point in time in early February 2020. Unlike me, he was approved in a couple of weeks. Me? 10 months, more or less. But now that I've been approved, I'm not complaining. :D

Similar experience for me. I applied for a renewal about a year ago (early 2020, before covid), and my new card arrived today in Jan 2021. My wife applied for a renewal a couple months ago and she had a new card in less than a week. No interviews for either of us.

Renewed Jan 4th, 2021 6pm for both of us.
Both conditionally approved Jan 5th, 2021 10pm.
Have to interview, however.
Some folks have mentioned that their interviewer asked about their travel to Turkey and Indonesia, so some countries in your renewal may trigger an interview.
We had both of those on our list and about 20 others.
We are US passport holders.
Was hoping to be able to interview in Vancouver, but might have to just schedule in Blaine, Washington.

Renewed on 1/5/21
Approved 1/7/21
No interview required.
No international travel in past few years
US Passport Holders

If I start the Nexus renewal process, I see:

Note: this option requires
  • approval by both U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency
  • a visit to an enrollment center on the United States/Canada land border or at a major airport in Canada

However, https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nex...ouvel-eng.html says:

It is no longer necessary for the majority of renewing members who have not had changes to their information and have maintained their low-risk status to attend an interview.
Does the interview requirement mentioned above mean I'm guaranteed to need a renewal interview, or does it say that for everyone?

Chain of events
July 2019 - Applied for renewal (expiry October 2019)
Feb 2020 - Application cancelled given NY State resident
Sep 2020 - Status re-instated as the NY State matter was resolved. Given until March to renew
Jan 19, 2021 - Re-applied for Renewal
Jan 21, 2021 - Renewed - No interview.

Hope that helps.

Some people who renew Nexus are asked to interview, and others get approved without an interview.
