The main value proposition of CLEAR is to cut the line. The biometric ID feature is just one small part of the benefits. I have been using CLEAR for several years now. I typically get through SFO's security check under 5 minutes.
If the OP wants to cut the line, he/she can feel free to purchase a CLEAR membership. You get a big discount by being a Delta member.

The only place I regularly encounter CLEAR is at MSP’s North security checkpoint. There, TSA Pre-check has one line and CLEAR has a separate line, but the two lines merge and a single TSA agent handles both, with a CLEAR staffer accompanying the CLEARed passenger to the TSA agent.
Usually in my experience that TSA agent alternates between taking a person from a Pre-check line and a person from the CLEAR, if there is one (it’s not used that much as far as I can tell).
However the other day, I was in Pre-check line and the single agent took several of us in a row, ignoring the CLEAR passenger/staffer. After I went through I heard the CLEAR staffer complain to the TSA agent, saying something like “I thought our agreement was that you would take one-for-one, has something changed?”

Finally, Clear has arrived at BOS:

Unfortunately they're doing something I haven't observed previously: they're only at Terminal A for now, so only DL/WN flyers get lucky. Pity, because I have several B6 flights coming up.
They're coy about when they'll expand to other terminals, but it sounds like it's the eventual plan, so I guess I can't complain.

Don't be so sure- the Tuesday morning after Memorial Day the PreCheck line at SJC was down the stairs, but because of CLEAR, I was able to cut in line right up to the tables leading up to the X-Ray machine. 90 seconds. Haven't flown out of BOS in two decades, but the "cutting in line" part of CLEAR is of great value.

Boston is the airport I've wanted most, so a whopping pleasant surprise to use them today. Didn't need it particularly, but wanted to give "credit" for a visit. Clear is incredibly valuable at times, avoiding long lines, but off-peak it saves little time. Their employees are consistently friendly and helpful.

CLEAR pre check question
Putting this in the Delta forum because 1) i get CLEAR as a result of my status with Delta and 2) not sure where else to put it
this has happened to me twice recently: not paying attention(totally on me) i have wandered in to the CLEAR line with no pre check and have been directed to the CLEAR line with pre check Once in DTW and then this morning in Boston.
Question: how many CLEAR members do NOT have ore check? I would have to guess its a really low number. However, the non pre check CLEAR lane was staffed pretty heavily, so maybe i am wrong. Just seems odd to have CLEAR and no pre check.

I have CLEAR and Pre-Check but when I get the SSSS coming home when traveling internationally (happens roughly 20% of the time) I don't get Pre-Check and in airports where you exit airside to connect domestically I have to use the CLEAR non-pre-check line... probably a small number of people in that situation.

Never had Clear, but I've stood in several precheck lines watching the Clear process. At least at SFO, there is almost never a line at Clear, but I've had to wait behind up to 20 other passengers in the precheck line. In the Clear line, the Clear employee checks the ID of the passenger, then escorts them to the front of whichever line is appropriate: precheck or the unwashed masses. I'd say 4 of 5 Clear members were taken to precheck.
In your case, I have two ideas about what could have happened. The first is the Clear employee could have mistakenly directed you to the wrong line. The second is that Clear may be giving out free samples of precheck. Before I got precheck, every now and then I would get precheck on my BP, kind of as a teaser. They were trying to boost participation in the program at the time.
