I am noticing this more and more lately - The “real” line is after ID check but before the detectors.

It it just happened to me now in Denver - literally no line to walk up to any of 7 ID stations, but then 20-30 deep lines past each ID a check.

FT is funny - I was just salty for getting CLEAR “secondary ID check” and then a long line behind ID check. I check on here and both issues are fresh on the latest page.

I sign up for CLEAR, GE, Precheck, and get status all so the airport process is as seamless as possible. And I get pretty rattled when it still takes 30 minutes

CLEAR comes to Madison Square Garden

Also, something I wasn't aware of: Using CLEAR at Sports Venues does not require annual membership fees.

How do they get paid, then? IOW, you can register for CLEAR for sports-venue use only for free? (If so, that actually worries me for some reason)

The sports-arena Clear membership is free ...
... oh boy I can't be the only one wondering about why they'd do that, right?

I'm reading that kids under 18 can accompany a CLEAR member for free. Is this true even when the member has Precheck but the kid does not?

The two aren't really related. CLEAR essentially substitutes for the ID check, after which they escort you past the ID checker of whichever line you qualify for. It is entirely possible to use CLEAR without having Precheck.

But I think the question that davie355 is asking is whether they will escort the adult to the pre-check line and the minor to the regular line. I have gone with under-18s when we were all going to pre-check - but, I don't know what they would do if one of the under 18s did not have pre-check and I did. Probably best to for davie355 to call CLEAR to ask if no one on here can confirm that they have actually done it.

Or just go and try it - if they refuse to escort the under 18 to the non-precheck line when the adult is going to precheck, the adult can always agree to go to the regular line witht he under-18 and not precheck.

Thanks. I seem to recall that at DTW (North terminal), the CLEAR lane entrance sign says “Precheck only,” even though the actual TSA checkpoint serves both regular and Precheck passengers.

Ah, indeed. Good points all around.

I only have experience with the DL terminal there but there DTW is somewhat rare in having a dedicated CLEAR+Precheck line (in most other cases there is a single CLEAR line and they take you to either Pre or non-Pre after the biometrics) -- however in the DL terminal at least, DTW also has a CLEAR/non-Precheck line on the other side of the setup.

So to riff off of BigFlyer's advice, the simplest thing might be just to show up and explain the situation to the CLEAR agent and see what they suggest (and assuming there is a similar CLEAR-without-Pre line in the North terminal they would be able to direct you to it if appropriate)

Of course, this is Flyertalk, and we are both suggesting a possible voluntary downgrade from pre-check. I don't think anyone on Flyertalk has ever done that.

I sort of did it once re-entering the US at SEA, because Mom didn't understand why I wanted us to exit all the way landside and I was too tired/jetlagged to explain

But if you do take the train landside you get Pre + CLEAR.

Clear now lets travelers flying on Delta (and with a linked SkyMiles account) visit Clear kiosks and move straight to the security bins after identity verification

Clear Members Can Now Go Through Airport Security Without Showing ID or Scanning a Boarding Pass

I got notification today from Clear that they are now open at CLE and I finally signed up for CLEar.

I'm curious as to how this will work with this config. Will they walk us to the front of the Pre-check line?
