CLE - Impact of other airlines (gates, routes, equipment, & etc) after UA De-Hubbing

NK adding seasonal CLE to BOS 43.09 lets see what UA does with this route...

At $50 oil they should fight but I doubt they will.

I'm seeing $34 fares.
Between B6, NK, and WN flights to BOS there's no way UA will stick around and fight. I'd say we're due for the next announcement cutting BOS, CUN, MKE, and SJU.

Definitely agreed... BOS has always been one of UA's cash cows out of CLE. It's difficult to find a sub-$500 ticket, even advance purchase, on that route. By UA's current definition of "profitable routes", being forced to charge market rates will almost certainly destine BOS for the scrap bin.

Can't wait to see what "more profitable" route gets added elsewhere in exchange!

Not sure if 'cash cow' is the term I'd use, but when you're trying to fill a RJ145 that seats 50 people, naturally there aren't going to be a ton of $100 fares, as an example.

UA still uses UAX for flights to BOS while B6 and NK are using full sized jets.

In addition to NK adding CLE-BOs, B6 is also adding CLE-FLL beginning 4/30! Operated by A320. The flight times aren't the best (late AM departure from CLE and early morning departure from FLL) and look to be timed so the aircraft can do a 45 minute turn in CLE. Hopefully a sign of good things to come for B6 at CLE. I would personally like to see some earlier morning departures but that would require them overnighting an A/C at CLE which does not seem to be in the plans yet.

Regardless, a nice add and we will now have 2 daily to FLL, up from the 1 we've had the past year since the hub left.

I would rather be on an ERJ than a Spirit flight. A CRJ is comparable in comfort levels.

Yes, but an E190 vs an ERJ - I think we know who this winner is.

NK being less expensive most would take them over the over priced RJ.

I just hope residents of CLE and the surrounding areas support B6 so the flights they've already announced stay and hopefully grow to other cities. I'd hate to see CLE be abandoned by B6 ala CMH, BNA, etc.

CLE is saved?

The cover of my 2015 1K benefits book - picture of Cleveland skyline taken from the southeast...perhaps over CSU campus.

Nice touch from the Ministry of Propaganda on Wacker Drive.

Well, CLE is still listed as a hub under Current Hub Weather Conditions on UA.com...

WOW! Never heard that, besides can't believe a word of what Jeff says. If the plan is still to remove an additional 50-ERJ's in 2015 I would bet the service to STL, MKE, DCA, LGA, BOS and any other non hub cities I might be forgetting is gone in 2015.

The main issue for me is the hub was lost twice, that never happened before to any city. I feel sorry more for the employees who lost jobs or were forced to relocate. More jobs will be cut in March when United cuts routes it has been making a good profit on and I have a issue with that. Prior to deregulation an airline could not cut a route unless it could justify to the government why.
