At the same time I applied for my wife and two kids and they all received their conditional approval about a month later and within a week of each other. I've no idea why mine is taking so much longer. Whenever I call CBP they just say it can take many months with no rhyme or reason as to why some take longer than others. This morning the agent told me it could take 6-9 months.

I applied on June 24, and still waiting for the conditional approval as well

I applied August 21, 2019 and got conditionally approved on October 17, 2019.

That is how it should be. Unfortunately not everyone is so lucky. If I may ask you where are you located Canada or US? Did you apply on TTP website? I'm still waiting for my conditional approval from July 8.

US, based upon oreocookies' subsequent post in the Global Entry vs NEXUS thread.

I live in Oregon. I could've gotten a next day appointment in Niagara Falls but I have to wait until I go to the area for Christmas so my appointment is scheduled for December. Some places seem to be booked for weeks but Niagara Falls on the U.S. side has tons of openings. And I did apply via https://ttp.dhs.gov.

Interesting observation. It seems like most of those people who are still pending review applied in June and July. Maybe we were forgotten somehow.

I'll add to the June/July delays. Is it possible that these two months were somehow skipped?

Applied July 16, 2019
Still pending review
I'm in Montreal, and have only visited two other countries (France, Peru) in the last 5 years, plus traveled to the US about 15 times for work.

I, like most of you, have been waiting patiently for my conditional approval. I thought applying back on August third would give me plenty of time to get my card in time for the 3 trips I have in December. Looks like it wasn’t. Lol

I don’t know how many people work on applications at the NEXUS headquarters, or how much of the process is automated, but they processed 546,473 applications in the fiscal year 2018/19. That’s 2094 per business day.

When I look at those numbers, now I know why it can take months.

george53 Oct 30, 2019 5:05 pm

I agree with RockMan38 that it is very much time consuming process. However my point is that all applications should be processed in the order they were received. If I applied on July 8 and my application is still pending review then how could someone who applied in August or September possibly be approved already? When I asked this question CBSA agent over the phone she could not explain this to me. From statistical standpoint applications received in summer time take significantly longer than those submitted in winter. This I can understand as they have less resources due to vacations. But it is definitely strange when most of the summer applications are still waiting for conditional approval while those submitted a month or two later got already approved.

RockMan38 Oct 30, 2019 5:45 pm

I would think that they get a surge in applications in the summer of people applying to get their cards before winter travel season begins.

I wonder if the initial screening of the application is an automated process. If you’re squeaky clean, it gets processed right away. If you have even the slightest flag in your application it gets routed to someone to dig a lot deeper. Would be nice to know. At least this would explain how some are processed right away and others are still waiting.

Just called Canadian processing center to find out if June/July months were "lost". What she said that US Immigration received most applications in those months, they were not processed yet and therefore it seems like these months were lost. In reality she said don't pay any attention to what CBSA site says about 39 processing days but be prepared to wait at least 6-7 months before US immigration will be able to get to your applications for security check. So be patient and prepare for a long wait time.

Oof. That's rough, especially if people who applied in August or September are somehow getting ahead of the summer backlog.

It certainly seems like this is the reason for the difference in processing times. I applied along with my wife and kids in June. Theirs were approved in a matter of weeks while mine is still pending approval as of today. We are all US citizens and my wife and I have global entry. I travel frequently to asia for work. The rest of the family has only traveled internationally a couple of times in the last few years and it was to Canada and UK while I've had to go to Australia, Japan, South Korea, and UK. When I called CBSA all they could tell me is they were waiting on US CBP. When I called US CBP all they could say is there's no reason why some are processed faster than others and to just keep waiting.
