Hard core bourbon run!

Hope you manage some sleep at some point :D

You've inspired me to sip on the bourbon I have on hand--I got this Evan Williams bottle after my own visit to the speakeasy experience there. I hope you end the night with a Hot Brown!

Starters were wings, absolutely delicious, beer cheese, OK, and fried green tomatoes…. No idea :)

We have been to a couple of bars with 300+ bourbons which left me wanting to up my game. This place that 3300 bottles. Yes, three thousand!

I have a short video that I will upload later.

Yes, if you're only going to visit Louisville once, you absolutely must have a Hot Brown sandwich and ONLY from the place that invented it: the Brown Hotel.

The Brown is a very historic old hotel in its own right, has a beautiful lobby and is well worth a visit. I believe you can get a Hot Brown sandwich in its lobby bar, in its formal restaurant (the English Room? English Grill?) and in the casual coffee shop restaurant at street level.

The main courses were disappointing, all of them were either tepid or stone cold. The tacos and jacket potato were so cold that we complained and they were removed from the bill

After dinner we made our way back to the hotel and we all thought Steve had gone to see to the car parking meter however he disappeared into the distance. A few minutes later he called to say that there was a hot air balloon glow happening beside the waterfront and so we all wandered over to take a look

This was part of the Kentucky Derby Festival.

It was now heading towards ten pm and time to call it a night. I returned to my room, sat on the bed for a moment, and awoke at midnight!

Now at 00:30 it’s time to go to bed properly, we need to leave the hotel at 07:45 at the latest to make our way to the tour meeting point.

So much fun following along although I’m not a whiskey or bourbon drinker…I’ll take an espresso martini any time. Anyway, my late brother was a bourbon fan and lived in Kentucky.

Good morning from Louisville where it a little after 6am. Not a bad nights sleep overall however the hotel got noise at 6am and so I dragged myself down to reception on the hunt for coffee. The free coffee was already out and reception was bustling as there is a half and a full marathon starting at 7am.

Police lights outside triggered that monkey curiosity and I stepped out to take a look. There were flashing lights in all directions as the police closed the roads for the marathon. As I stood there watching the world go by I started chatting to a chap who is running the half today, he tells me there’s free beer for the runners at the finish… very civilised!

I’ve picked up an ironing board and iron from reception as everything is pretty creased after three full days crammed in a suitcase, so first orders of the day are to get ready for the day ahead and then iron a few days clothes before breakfast opens in 30 minutes time.

Now time for the 15 minute stroll to the tour meeting point

JapesUK Apr 26, 2025 6:12 am

The meeting point is at the falls city market

Today’s tour is taking us to Maker's Mark, Heaven Hill & Bardstown Bourbon Company, along with a stop for lunch at a country club for lunch.

Our tour guide, Dan, is going around the bus asking people for one think they know about Kentucky… someone already mentioned chicken so that’s me drawing a blank :D

Plenty of legroom in the back of the bus but it does mean I can hardly hear a word that Dan is saying.

If you like brandy, Copper & Kings is worth a try while you’re in Louisville! I know you’ve got lots on your agenda already, however!
