And now it really is time to close off this overrunning trip report. Six by Nico is a small chain and I will certainly look out for them in future. Six or more course tasting menu and matched cocktails for under £100 is hard to beat.

Now back to the hotel for a nightcap and then time to crash and burn.

Bye for now, back in two weeks time

My goodness, Japes!
I'm feeling a bit hung over just looking at all the pictures of bourbon, much less reading about them. Well cheers to ya, Buddy, and thanks for a great trip report! In the annals of great trip reports, this one is destined to be considered a Japes Classic. And all those shots from Evergreen Liquors... I thought I'd leave you with some sales prices I encountered recently at a Fred Meyer in Washington State...

With an upcoming train trip, I bought a 750 ml bottle of Basil Hayden and a 750ml Makers Mark. They charge $8.50 per 50ml mini on the train (For Jack Daniels, no less ), so I think I got excellent value

Two bottles for a train trip caused a momentary WHAT! from this denizen of a postage stamp where a train trip lasts a matter of hours :)

Well, "hours" is relative. It's just a few more hours over here. Hopefully you can bring a bottle or two along on the Caledonian Sleeper some night - or the night train to Cornwall. For what it's worth, those two bottles lasted me aboard two trains over five days, and that was sharing them with a couple different fellow passengers, provided they were willing to go up to the lounge car and fetch copious quantities of ice.

The price tag was the big shocker. Basil Hayden usually runs about $45 in my neck of the woods, and Makers Mark - my go to everyday affordable house bourbon - usually runs about $28. Great prices! I've got a $29 bottle of Long Branch waiting for me when I get home in ten days. In the meantime, I hope I have time to score a bottle of something between the airport and the LA train station for tomorrow evening's two day ride to Chicago aboard the Southwest Chief. I'm in Portland tonight. There are no riots or protests that I know of yet. Maybe tomorrow!

Ah, Fred Meyer! They have a long history of enticing sales. As a kid my mom used to stock up when the canned chicken was super-marked-down. In her defense this was for lunch sandwiches in car camping trips.

Bourbon definitely beats canned chicken as an enticement to make a trip to the store...

Great report! - I even saw Seat 2A commenting in it - another great trip writer who travels with fuel for train rides.

I mentioned earlier in the thread the tea towel that I wish had been a T-shirt. I arrived at the office to find a parcel waiting for me from Steve, and he had pinged me that it was on its way and to call him before I opened it.

This was what was in the parcel
