15. Nope, it wasn't British Airways nor was the aircraft in question a B757-200.

Please guess again, sir!

2. Responding to Seat 2A....

Yep, National was indeed operating an Electra on the flight in question.

However, please note we have already ruled out JAX....but I did not rule our MCO or TPA; I only stated that the order you had the stops in was incorrect.

And we can rule out MLB and PBI as stops with this flight making the fourth stop at MIA.

So we are looking for PNS - ___ - ___ - ___ - MIA - EYW operated with an Electra.

Anyone know why there was always a CO jet parked at El Toro MCAS? A "Proud Bird with the Golden Tail"? I was too young then to know what aircraft it was, but every time my parents took us to the PX/commissary, it was always behind the control tower with just the tail showing.

"At Continental Airlines, we really move our tail for you" is the sexist ad jingle I've always associated with CO, even to the end.

You don't say what the time line was, but if I had to guess, it's possible that perhaps Continental had some kind of military contract involving regular troop flights in and out of El Toro back then.

8. Well.....no. Piedmont was actually operating a B737-200 on the flight in question. Here's the sched....

PI 1663: Albany (ALB) 7:15a - 8:22a Baltimore (BWI) 9:09a - 11:59a Nassau (NAS)
Freq: Daily
Service classes: F/Y
Meal services: Snack ALB-BWI, Breakfast BWI-NAS
Equip: 73S

The above aircraft then turned around at Nassau and flew back to Albany via the stop at PI's Baltimore hub.

BTW, Piedmont was operating three nonstops a day between ALB and BWI at this time all with 73S equipment while Brockway Air was operating Piedmont Commuter System code sharing flights with Beechcraft 1900C and Saab 340 turboprop equipment nonstop between ALB and BOS, BTV, EWR, ROC & SYR.

I remember visiting MCAS El Toro when it was still an operational military base and seeing a Bell 214ST helicopter parked on the ramp. I was familiar with the Bell 214ST as several of the Part 135 helicopter operators I had worked with in the past operated this large twin engine rotorcraft in crew change operations for various oil & gas companies that have deep water drilling and production activities in the Gulf of Mexico. I also oversaw a short term Bell 214ST contract for firefighting support operations for the U.S. Forest Service with the helicopter being based at Kernville, CA in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

But back to the Bell 214ST parked at MCAS El Toro. This particular rotorcraft was in the livery of the Iraqi military. So I asked a USMC Captain about the helicopter. He looked at me for a moment and then said one word: "Trophy". The story was this Bell 214ST was Saddam Hussein's personal bird and after the Marines captured it, they arranged to have it transported to California in the back of a USAF C-5B Galaxy.

14. Ah, it wasn't South African Airways and the nonstop flight in question did not depart from Johannesburg.

2. Now it's 1967 and time for yet another milk run flight! This time you are in Florida and are on your way from Pensacola to Key West with your flight making four stops along the way. Name the air carrier, all four stops in order and the aircraft. ANSWERED

3. In 1972 this airline ran a print ad concerning its direct service from Los Angeles to both Sydney and Melbourne which included the following statement: "Perhaps that's why so many passengers tell us they enjoy our service across the South Pacific so much. Enjoy the comfort of really being looked after. Even the old fashioned delight of having someone say please and thank you." This ad also mentioned the aircraft type operated on its service between LAX and Australia. Name the air carrier that ran this ad as well as the aircraft type. It wasn't Continental and the aircraft wasn't a DC-10

4. Also in 1972, National Airlines was pursuing a possible merger with another air carrier. However, at the end of that same year, National terminated discussions concerning the proposed merger and then blamed the CAB for its decision to do so. What airline was National planning to merge with?

5. If you wanted to fly on board a Caravelle into Barbados in 1980, what airline would you call? ANSWERED

7. It's 1988 and friends have invited you to join them on board their sailboat for a cruise around the Dutch ABC islands in the Caribbean. You are in New York City and the boat is moored in Bonaire. You find that one airline get you there with a connection being required. Your first flight will be nonstop and you'll be in business class. Your second flight will also be nonstop but will be in a smaller aircraft configured with an all coach cabin. Identify the airport you'll depart from in the New York City area, the air carrier you'll be flying with, the connecting city and both aircraft types. ANSWERED

11. You are in Fort Lauderdale in 1995 having breakfast on a Thursday morning with your lady friend. The phone rings and it's your old sailing buddy calling from Santa Barbara concerning a catamaran that's for sale down in St. Kitts in the Caribbean. "It's in excellent condition," he says, "and the price is right! You need to get down there right away!" Well, of course you do! And as fate would have it, you then find there's a nonstop flight departing at midday from FLL to SKB. Even better, there are two first class seats available for you and your lady! You've never heard of the airline you'll be flying with but what the heck...you book two seats in first. Name the air carrier and the equipment.

The time line for the next quiz item is also 1995.....

12. The catamaran moored in the St. Kitts marina proves to be in superb condition. So you're ready to close the deal. And then over rum drinks at sunset in the yacht club, your contact at the marina says this: "Just one small challenge, mon. Da owner of the da cat is in Barbados so you gonna have to fly down dere an' meet with him." You quickly ascertain there's a direct flight departing from St. Kitts first thing the next morning to Barbados which will make two stops en route and arrive into BGI in plenty of time for a lunch meeting with the owner of the catamaran. This flight operates four days a week and the aircraft is configured with an all coach cabin. Identify the air carrier, both stops and the aircraft. It wasn't LIAT, stops were not made at NEV or ANU, and the equipment wasn't a DHC-8 Dash 8. Hint: The aircraft in question was a jet.

13. Now it's 1996 and you are in the Zuffenhausen district of Stuttgart where you've had a very enjoyable time visiting the Porsche Museum. You now have to fly to Kiev in the Ukraine for a meeting. You've found a convenient schedule involving a connection operated by one airline with connecting time of just over one hour with the same aircraft type being operated on both nonstop flights. Identify the air carrier, the connecting airport and the equipment. ANSWERED

14. Also in 1996, only one airline was operating 747 service into Kilimanjaro (JRO) in Tanzania with the flight only operating once a week. What airline operated this flight and where did it depart from nonstop to Kilimanjaro? ANSWERED - It was Air Austral from St. Denis De La Reunion (RUN) in the Indian Ocean

15. In the fall of 1999, only two airlines were operating nonstop service from New York JFK to Toronto. One of these flights only operated three days a week and the other flight only operated once a week. Different aircraft types were operated on these flights. Name both air carriers and the respective equipment they operated from JFK to YYZ. One of the airlines was VASP operating an MD-11 three days a week. The other air carrier wasn't VARIG, British Airways or Aerolineas Argentinas. The aircraft operated on the other flight was a B747-200.
Rolling right along here....

Meantime, we have an interesting weather forecast in south Louisiana this weekend into next week. Just a few days ago our afternoon high temperatures were in the upper 70s F with abundant sunshine and it was nice to see the roses blooming in our gardens. However, Old Man Winter has now returned with a vengeance courtesy of a large arctic air mass that is currently moving down from northern Canada all the way to the Gulf Coast. The forecast for LFT is for freezing rain and sleet this Sunday morning, an ice storm accompanied by snow this Monday, and a chance once again for freezing rain and sleet this Wednesday morning. And this Tuesday morning on Mardi Gras day we may see a low temp here of 17 degrees F.

13- looking at a map of central and eastern Europe, I can find several interesting potential connecting points, and the fleets of those national carriers yield several interesting possibilities ... let's start with CSA (Czech Airlines), connecting between a pair of Tu-134s in Prague/PRG

Seattle saw a dusting of snow last night, and we are looking at a forecast of 6-7" between late this evening and midafternoon tomorrow (then turning to rain on Sun afternoon)

13. Nope, it wasn't CSA and thus the connection wasn't made at Prague.

And the aircraft we are looking for here was not manufactured in Russia.
