flight availability research

I'm searching for flights departing JFK on 11/3/11 for SYD, and am wondering why the research results differ depending on whether I'm searching for skyteam, DL/KE/AF.

Meaning, suppose the following:
A) search with airline 'DL' returns flights 1 2 3 4
B) search with airline 'KE' returns flights 5 6
C) search with airline 'AF' returns flights 8 9 10

But,
D) search with 'skyteam' returns only flights 1 2 3 4 5 7

Why is there this inconsistency? Thanks.

If you search for only one airline then only that airlines results will be shown, which means that the limited amount of results that are returned to us from the GDS at one time can be devoted exclusively to that airline. Specifying an alliance doesn't change how many flights can be returned by the GDS, so some will have to be left out if the total of possible flights is greater then the limit.

As for why flight #7, whatever that is, is returned with one search and not the other? Well your comparing apples to oranges, the GDS returns what it thinks are the top best flights for the search (when a connection is required), changing the search criteria changes the pool of flights it chooses from. By adding other airlines flights into the mix, or not, a flight may or may not make the cut.

It seems that a change has been made recently to only allow login via email address rather than username. Not sure why this happened so suddenly or without advance notice.

Still unhappy about the inability to stay logged in for more than a fraction of an hour at a time.

An email was sent out on August 29th mentioning that, among other things, this change would be happening in the coming weeks. Please make sure that your email address on file with us is up to date.

What is the class code for business class award seats on China Airlines? I was told that it was O, but I cannot find anything using your site. I know coach is S and of course regular business is J. I love your site by the way!

Any thoughts or plans on adding ANA availability to the award portion of the tool? While I realize that KVS does it - the main reason I use EF as well is the alerting (in fact, you just alerted on an award seat this morning that I was able to snag that saved me a bunch of extra flights - really happy there!).

Thanks!

Great link, thanks! What is preventing you from adding Business - Award to the viewable list?

When did ExpertFlyer change from login name to full email address?

I'm having trouble logging in, and am receiving an error that my email address isn't in the system.

Is anyone else having problems today?

There are various reasons why we can't do that at this time. However you can get the ANA data for free either from ANA itself or via AwardNexus which is a great compliment to ExpertFlyer.

The information isn't published in the GDS by the airline, we can't add something that isn't there for us to see.

As noted in post 544, we emailed out a notice that this would be happening last moth, here is a copy of it: http://createsend.com/t/y-FF32E7289892A930

Making sure that your email on file with us is up to date is important in order to recieve notices like these as well as subscription notices, billing receipts, and Flight/Seat Alert notifications.

If you don't know what the correct email address for your account is, just email us at [email protected] and we will help you figure it out. You can then change it from the My Account page after you login.

Thank you, ExpertFlyer Voice and cmn.jcs. ^

The email that was on file, apparently, was my cell phone email. I've since been able to get back into my account and change the information to reflect my primary email address.

I missed the notification that this change was coming. Presumably, since it was going to my cell phone email address.

In any case, my information is now up-to-date and I'm able to use the service again.

Lightbulb Paid Seats on ExpertFlyer Seat Maps

Today we're announcing that ExpertFlyer now has a Paid Seat designation in it's Seat Maps. This designation will be used for any seat that is marked as a seat where a traveler would have to pay to reserve it by the airline.

Since airlines can also mark such seats as free for elite frequent flyers as well as Paid, a second seat designation, Paid & Premium, as also been added. When you see this icon on a seat it means that the seat can be reserved by an elite frequent flyer, or by paying. ExpertFlyer previously shows these seats as Premium Only.

For Seat Alerts, the "Paid & Premium" seat will be treated the same as a Premium Only seat. Paid seats will be treated as not available. To our knowledge, only WestJet and Frontier shows seats as Paid only, if you find others please let us know.
