Sigh... yet another completely useless toy for non-Windoze users. I suppose the author has never considered releasing the tool as open source (yes, I know Windoze users don't understand the concept of "open")? Or better yet, writing a platform-independent tool (perhaps using Java or Webservices)? Or perhaps trying to enlist some Linux/Unix/Mac OS X Flyertalkers to help port the app? If the app REALLY works, why not just GPL it and set up a project on SourceForge? I'm sure there are lots of people who would be willing to contribute time to help.

In the meantime, is there any we can see those inventories over the web, without the nice front-end of the tool? I'd be willing to use cryptic interfaces, if I could just find a way to check "I" availability on DL!

I-class availability is available via ITN (i.e. Carlson Wagonlit Travel). ;)

Example:

While I feel no need to defend my choice of the platform (or respond to the implied personal attack contained in your post), I will say that it "really" does work :rolleyes: and currently has 800+ FT'ers as registered users, including ~3 users who successfully run it under a Windows emulator on their Macs.

Why not just make the tool web-based? Then you would control the underlying version all the time, as well as removing all the issues of having to download the tool, it being operating-system specific, proxy issues, etc, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that would be yet another way to kill the Tool in no time, as the servers that the Tool is accessing will begin to receive an unusually high number of requests all coming from a single source... Not to mention a certain loss of functionality and speed.

I appologize for the perceived personal attack. It was poorly worded. As a non-Windoze user, I find it very frustrating that people develop Windoze-only applications. Yes, you're right - Mac users can shell out in excess of $200 to get a VERY poor-running Windoze "emulator". This does nothing to address the Linux, Unix, and Open Source communities. Given that people are beginning to look more seriously at alternatives to Windoze (examples - Mac mini is entering new retail and distribution channels, Firefox is experiencing rapid acceptance as a better alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer, and may people are turning to viable alternate e-mail clients to avoid using the Microsoft Virus and spam distribution client (er, Outlook)).

You mentioned the Carson Wagonlit and ITN websites. I thought Carson Wagonlit was only available to clients of Carson Wagonlit (which I am not). I've tried using the ITN website (which appears to be American Express Travel Services now), with mixed success, hence my (probably unwarranted) scepticism.

Again though, I appologize for poor wording and what read like an "attack". That certainly wasn't my intent.

I guess miscommunication is one of the dangers of internet forums :). Don't get me wrong -- I would never use M$ Internet Explorer (I use Netscape 7 that is based on the the open-source Gecko/Mozilla engine, the same engine that Firefox is using). Nor would I ever use Outlook as a mail client.

Well, most Java implementations run poorly under Windows. So the choice is really between (a) me enjoying the performance of a native Windows application and having the users who decided to chose another platform run it under an emulator AND (b) me running it under a sluggish emulator (Java engine for Windows) and Mac/Linux/etc users enjoying its great performance :) ...

I've been using this tool from almost the beginning. I use it every week and sometimes multiple times during the day. It's a free tool that KVS has developed to help the community. Thanks KVS for all the time and effort it has taken to develop and update the program. To me it has been one of the best "finds" I've made on FT.

I suggest you give it a try. If you don't like it, don't use it. But I would suggest pushing back from the key board before throwing rocks at someone who has investsed this much time to help us all.

Award Classes for AA
 

What are the award codes with AA for Y, C and F? I want to look up in KVS (Worldspan).

I actually thougt:
Y = T
C = U
F = Z
Can anyone confirm or post here the correct codes?

PS: Is there an overview with the award classes for all the airlines? I didn't find it :-(

The info on AA booking classes can be found in FewMiles's Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage.
However, the Tool does not display AA "Plan AAhead" award booking classes (T/U/Z).

Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching this thread and read the FAQ, etc. at the top of the thread and couldn't find this.

Does the KVS tool display award availability (ie. V, G, etc) on Delta, and other SkyTeam partners? I ask because I don't want to download / register if this tool can't do those (why unecesarily destroy bandwidth :D ). If it can, I'll give it a spin. :cool:

I cant download KVS because I have a MAC... is there a chance that this tool will be available for MAC users? I could really use some help in upgrade availabilities on UA (or Lufhansa) from LAX to MUC July (2,3,4,5th)

Based on the new upgrade "I" seat class for upgraded seats (see post #39 on this link: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=430051), when (or if) will this class of seats show up on CWT ITN, or through the use of other search functions using the KVS tool?

That section of the FAQ did not address this issue specifically. At this point, I can't really speculate as to what AC booking classes will be available through the Tool after the transition is complete.
