I am still getting "Error requesting data"

ierax Feb 28, 2005 7:04 am

Is there a possibility that different methods show different availability results, e.g. F9 using AUA/*A and F4 using ITN/UA? If yes, what does this mean?
Best regards
Ierax

That is normal, amadeus shows up to 9 free seats, whereas United's (Gallileo) system shows a max of 4.

Peter42, thank you very much for the information!

proxy with authentication

Hi KVS,

my network requires to use a proxy with authentication for accessing the internet. I installed the latest version on your tool today and cannot get anything. IE 6 installed on my machine works just fine, the aeroplan tool also picks up my proxy setting, just he KVS tool doesn't. Any suggestions?

Due to the limitations of the Microsoft's MSIE interface that the tool is using, proxy servers requiring authentication are not currently supported. Only standard proxy servers are supported at this time and the tool will automatically use MSIE's proxy settings.

"Error requesting data"

Hi KVS,

first of all thanks for the amazing tool. Works for me, but the AUA/*A gives me the same message all the time as for some of the others in this thread. Got no clue for the reason. None of the restrictions apply to my system what has been discussed before (got broadband, can connect to the aua link, no pop-up blocker or firewall installed - besides the router)...

cheers

Version 1.3.7 Released

Version 1.3.7 of the KVS Availability Tool is now available for download.

Major Changes:
  • ITN/CWT: New [POS Selection] option has been added:
    • Default selection of (CWT/NY) should work for most users.
Selecting a different POS may provide add'l booking classes for some airlines.
    • Now displays cancelled flights ("CANCELLED")
    • Now displays same-day already departed flights ("PAST SCHEDULE")
    • Now shows complete seat maps for AC flights (not just the first few rows as was often the case in the past)

  • Sabre/AUA: New [Host Selection] option has been added:
    • Default selection of (Auto) should work for most users.
However, if you are having trouble with that option selected, try selecting one of the other hosts (1-4).
The upside of selecting a specific host is an increase in the speed with which the requests are processed by up to 200%.
The downside is that you may need to re-select a host from time to time (e.g. when 1 doesn't work, try 2, etc.)

Download Link:
Thanks ...

Thanks again KVS. I've changed laptops again so have downloaded the latest version and will PM you later.

Cheers for the hard work!

peter42 Mar 5, 2005 3:49 am

Hi KVS,
now AUA works again with selecting a AUA host - THANKS!

MapleLeaf Mar 5, 2005 12:40 pm

Well KVS I officially give up. There is no way in h*ll that AUA will work on my system. Nothing fancy here, Windows XP, rogers extreme hi-speed etc.

Your mods did nothing other than now get the tool to display transferrring data across the top before sitting there for minutes. I give up.

ITN.net [Temporarily] Down: 07 Mar 2005

At the moment, ITN.net appears to be down for some reason.

This outage impacts not only the tool, but also most of the functionality of United's website as discussed in this UA thread

Version 1.3.8 Released: Apollo+Sabre+Worldspan

Version 1.3.8 of the KVS Availability Tool is now available for download.

As it turns out, ITN can provide access to more than one GDS system. After doing some research, I have re-organized the access methods list and the tool is now able to provide access to 3 major GDS systems:

New Access Method Structure:
  1. Apollo: ITN/CWT
  2. Sabre: AUA/*A
  3. Worldspan: ITN/CWT
  4. Apollo: ITN/UA
  5. Galileo (restricted access)
[Download]

FAQ: Differences Between The Various Access Methods (Version 1.3.8+):
  • Apollo: ITN/CWT
    • [+]: Good for general use
    • [+]: Ability to limit results to certain airlines
    • [+]: Displays cancelled flights ("CANCELLED")
    • [+]: Displays same-day and already departed flights ("PAST SCHEDULE")
    • [+]: Complete seat maps for AC flights (not just the first few rows as was often the case with Worldspan)

  • Sabre: AUA/*A
    • [+]: Award availability for most *A airlines
    • [+]: Can limit results to *A flights only.
    • [-]: Does not always provide same-day availability data
    • [-]: Cannot limit results to a particular airline.

  • Worldspan: ITN/CWT
    • [+]: Ability to limit results to certain airlines
    • [-]: Seat map issues for certain carriers
    • [-]: Some users have reported that in certain cases, results returned may not be as accurate as those returned by other methods.

  • Apollo: ITN/UA:
    • [+]: Expanded class availability for UA
    • [+]: Provides availability info for same-day/already departed flights
    • [-]: Displays a rather strong 'preference' for UA's own flights

  • Galileo: (restricted access)
    • [+]: Access to airlines that publish their flights in Galileo, but not in Sabre
    • [+]: Often shows more connecting options that ITN/Sabre
    • [+]: Ability to limit results to any specific airline.
    • [-]: Slower, limited server capacity, requests are handled 1 class at a time.

Not sure if this is just me, but getting the following error when I try and get a seatmap through ITN/CWT, after searching on Sabre AUA/*A. Works fine if seatmapping through ITN/UA, or after getting availability from ITN/CWT etc.

Only seems to be happening since my update to v1.3.8.

Looks like you've just found a small bug :). It will be corrected in version 1.3.9. However, for now, here's a work-around:

After you see the AUA/*A results, select one of the ITN/CWT options (Apollo ITN/CWT or WorldSpan ITN/CWT) depending on which system you want the seatmaps to come from. Do not click the Go button. You should then be able to request seatmaps using the ITN/CWT option.

Great... works fine. Thank you! :)

Dear KVS

I am truly amazed by your developement skills and the usefulness of this tool!!! THANK YOU very much for making it available to the community. I can't believe I didn't discover it earlier ...

I did just send you a PM about the registration code - and I apologize for my brief tone, and hope it doesn't come across as demanding or unfriendly as some other PM's seem to be.

Would you be able to post a little bit more detail about the POS feature, and what difference it might make, in which situation?

Also, I am sure a short 1/2-page "Quick Reference User Guide" in the first post of this thread would be greatly appreciated ... However, with the drop-down I guess it really is very simple to use.

Regards

f4free

As of version 1.3.8, POS selection shouldn't make any difference, unless one of the POS'es becomes no longer valid.

This may be a really stupid question, but.......

....everytime I run the program (newest version), windows installer comes up and "installs" "it's deductible express". I get several prompts to insert the cd rom for "it's deductible express". After always clicking cancel and always getting an error message, the tool comes up and works just fine!!!!! It's just a pain in the butt.

Any thoughts?

This is likely caused by the absence of a fixed drive C: on your system and/or improper installation of the other program. If you are not using "it's deductible express", you may wish to completely uninstall it from your system to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks! Didn't even know I had it on the system. Pre-loaded I suppose. Got rid of it and now there's no problem.

Hello All!

First of all, thank you very much KVS!! In a word: excellent!!

Now to all you gurus out there: I'm looking at availability on a flight from FRA to TLS, which is operated by Lufthansa Cityline. Using Sabre AUA I was getting C9 D9 Z9 etc. which I know is wrong. I then tried Apollo (not sure whether it was CWT or UA) which was giving C4 D4 Z1 etc. which I know is correct. However, since three days (IIRC) this is also giving C9 D9 Z9 etc.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

PS Now I know that this is actually the Aeroplan forum so if I'm in the wrong place please tell me!

Is it possible to see availability for AA's award classes (T, U, Z)?
I do see A class (upgrade with miles), but the straight award classes
are missing. Thanks.

KVS - have to say once again what a great utility you have created ... saves me time (except that I am always checking now :D) in worrying about fare classes ... I may be forced :D to send you more $$$ for the sheer usefulness of the program! ^

I do have one thing that niggles at me thought ... The Date field has a pull-down, but nothing is ever remembered and no calendar (was that the intent) is ever seen.

Thanks again!

PB - who was able to get "U" class and not "A" as a result of KVS!

Hehe, sounds like there may soon be a need for KVS Tool Users Anonymous hotline :D, but, seriously, glad you're enjoying the Tool :).

As for the Date field, it has been made drop-down for possible future enchantments, but, as you discovered, it doesn't currently do anything :).

However, here is a tip @:-): You can use the Up/Down arrows to go 1 day back/forward respectively.

I haven't been able to see AA hidden classes with KVS, but I have been able to see them with ExpertFlyer.com. There is a thread about them on the AA forum and someone mentioned that they are giving out guest accounts to FT'ers that e-mail them asking for one. Hope it helps.

OK, thanks. I imagine that the use of Sabre is the reason for this.

Hey KVS,

a thousand thanks to you! Finally, the new version solves my problems using the AUA/*A host. I am exited about checking it out the first time, when ordering the next award...most likely an upgrade to First on the way to PEK.

Thanks again and keep the good work up! ^

This has probably been explained elsewhere....but here goes anyway:

Was does the POS mean in the KVS tool and what should the "default" setting be for YYZ (or does that even matter??)

When do you change the POS to some other location (NY, CA, NE, TN, CO, HI). What does this do to the search results?

Thx in advance. CFB

Simply put, it selects the CWT travel agency that you will be 'working with'. At the moment, it should not have any effect on the availability results.

Still Confused?

Okay.....my ignorance is showing....what is CWT stand for (the closest acronym I can see in the glossary is CTOs). Also, was curious about was POS stands for too.

LASTLY, if it has no bearing on results....why is it included in the KVS Tool anyways?

CWT is Carlson Wagonlit Travel: http://www.carlsontravel.com
POS is now explained in the FAQ at the beginning of this thread.

It is there in case one or more of the listed POSs cease to function.

Why worry? It should not affect your usage of this great tool? Does not bother me! :D

I think KVS is just trying to make this tool as useful and powerful as he can at this time and plan for the future ...
