Well, it all depends... YYCOllie mentioned one of the factors. The wording of a request can also make a difference; your version (

FAQ: What's the "class" field for?

I've recently received this question from a user:

Q: What's the "class" field for (when searching using ITN)?

A: Class selection in ITN mode serves two purposes:
  1. It affects the order in which flights are listed in situations where a cabin class is completely sold-out.
  2. It is used to provide an appropriate seat map when using the "Book Segment/Seat Map" function.

Just one comment when using it to query BA flights. BA has 4 travel classes, Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First. When the results are shown, it goes from Busines to Economy. i.e. J C D I, then Y B H. BA has W and T (the fare buckets for Premium Economy) in between. Virgin Atlantic, also has a Premium Economy class, and those fare buckets aren't displayed either. I suspect it's a limitation of the underlying booking engine, rather than the tool itself, but thought I should bring it up.

And many thanks for making an excellent tool available to the FT community.

BA Availability & ITN

It is indeed a limitation of the ITN engine. However, it appears that:
  • First Class is shown (e.g. BA92 YYZ-LHR includes F/A availability).
  • Using ITN/UA access method will bring up additional Y-subclasses (e.g. V/N/L/S/Q/O) not shown when using ITN/AX.

KVS thanks for a great tool!

I have a couple of questions:
- which engine should one use? AMEX or UA for LH or SA flights

- I am looking for award availability and as far as I understand it, if the class isn't shown then ITN doens't know about it? For example:

LH 576 FRA 22:30 CPT 11:25 +1 340 0 F4 A3 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S0

I looked at the list on here it shows LH award class to be O-I-X.

So in the above example, no O-I-X means ITN does not see it?

Is there a way to see the award classes?

Thanks again!

FAQ: ITN/AX Vs. ITN/UA & Award Booking Classes

It is, generally, preferable to use ITN/AX access method as the ITN/UA method tends to show UA flights even when they were not requested.

However, sometimes using ITN/UA access will display classes that ITN/AX does not.

That is correct.

You can use smiley67's tool for that. The link should be somewhere in this thread.

Thanks for the new version!

I take it then, that this new search method doesn't provide the data for AC award space (D/W)?

I am afraid not... It provides award class data for virtually all *A airlines (as per my previous post), with the exception of AC and UA.

Could you be more specific about the problem you're having? And no, you don't have remove the previous version before installing a new one.

martyYYZ Nov 15, 2004 6:46 pm

Works fine for me on Windows XP! Thanks KVS for this great tool!

It downloads onto my destop as a zip file and then when I open that up I get three files as listed

kvs_availabilitytool.cab
setup.exe
lst.exe

And I can't install from any of the three baxes.
Best explanation I can give

I'm on XP professional

Try copying/extracting all 3 files out of the ZIP file to a new temporary folder, then run SETUP.EXE

If that doesn't work, use WinZip [http://winzip.com] to extract the files from the ZIP archive.

This is so cool

I just entered a flight YOW-ZRH, and the KVS Availability Tool responded with 8 combinations of flights on AC, LH, BD, and/or UA. This will be indispensable in planning future travel.

Thanks again to KVS!!

Passenger_by_Passion Nov 25, 2004 2:54 pm

Thank you....

works just fine with Windows XP Prof.

This sure saves a lot of time compared to looking up the sites one by one.

BlondeBomber Nov 25, 2004 3:19 pm

OK not sure what's happening but when I click on the link to the link KVS posted below I just get more pages of flyer talk threads with no links to the tool. Can someone point out what I am doing wrong?

Edited to say. Found it in the first post which gave me an error before:

"link removed to avoid confusion with other links"

is the link. If you don't want this posted I will remove it.

BlondeBomber Nov 25, 2004 3:30 pm

Thanks again--works fine in XP as always. Like the update.

There are other links, one of which is jove.prohosting which does not work. Must have clicked on that before.

It is in the earliest date post on this thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...4&page=3&pp=40

for those of us who have reversed the order in which posts appear (ie. most recent first)

That was, indeed, an outdated link and I've just removed it.

Please also remove the [current] link from your previous post, just in case I will need to change the URL in the future.

Warning: AUA.com/*A Access Method

Looks like Austrian Airlines had slightly redesigned their booking engine and, as a result, the AUA.com/*A method in KVS Availability Tool may not be functioning properly at the moment.

A new version of the tool should be available for download tomorrow -- keep an eye on this thread. In the meantime, you can use one of the other access methods...

You need to click on the "download" link at upper left. That will take you to another link for prohosting then you can download and unzip the file.

Are you using the latest version (1.3.2)?

DarrenT Dec 15, 2004 11:54 am

Not working for me either!

Even when you get to the second page and you save target as, it saves an html page and not a zip file. Clicking the link itself just refreshes the page.
