If that does not work, you will have to run the setup to update the required system files.

On a sidenote, it is something that might be required if the windows version is in french.

Be careful! I installed it on a Win 98SE machine and it overwrote a few system files. I got an rpc stub failure message while trying to run other programs. The fix was easy (had to overwrite the 4 files with the original ones) and everything worked fine.

While installing KVS make sure to select "NO" when it asks you to overwrite existing files.

Great tool to work with! Thanks KVS,

New Setup / Add'l Instructions for Win 9X Users

Turns-out that the issue described by vielflieger is, according to Micro$oft, a known bug. Therefore, from this point on, KVS Tool Setup will not be installing any system-critical files.

A new version of the setup is already available for download.

If you [still] use Windows 95/98, then you should download and install one of the following packages, downloadable from the Micro$oft's website, before running the KVS Tool Setup:

Win95: http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom95/download.asp
Win98: http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp

Which airline(s) did you try to limit to?

This is a problem with ITN itself. First of all, make sure to use the ITN/AMEX option.

The only issue with the tool itself that I am aware of is regarding Lufthansa, which will be rectified on the next update. In the meantime, you can manually enter the airline name string for Lufthansa exactly as it appears in the list below.

In genereal,
  • There are some airlines that it should always be able limit to (see the list below).
  • There are other airlines that it may be able to limit to.
  • And there are airlines that it can never limit to.

KVS

This looks like a great tool - many thanks.

I've just downloaded it and I wonder if you would be kind enough to send me a registration code. I will send you an email with the system code. Many thanks again.

It may appear that it brings you back to the same page, but keep on clicking that link -- you may need to repeat that process 3-4 times.

If that fails, try downloading using different browser.

Ok, tried it with IE and Netscape. Neither has the term "refferer logging" in the help files. Is there a specific browser that works?

You might also have some software (such as pop-up blockers and/or 'privacy guards') installed on your system that interferes with your browsers. If so, try disabling that type of software.

On the new version 1.2.6, everything works beautifully except for the ITN/Seatmap link, which crashes the tool. Has that happened to anyone else or is it my machine?

Does this availabiloty tool show award inventory for most carriers or just revenue availability? Any list of carriers on which award availability can be checked?

tracon Jul 8, 2004 10:35 am

I use several different computers throughout the day. It appears I need a different registration code for each computer. Is this correct?

Mac Availability..?

Hi KVS - from what I can tell, the app looks great. Do you - or any of the other gurus - know if there is something similar to your KVS tool aside from ITN ? I used to use a version of Sabre built for Mac OS X but I don't know if it still out there...

Yeah, I know, there's only 4 people who use Macs (yadda yadda yadda). :D

Thanks for any insight anyone can lend,

Cheers,

You may want to consider using a Windows emulator for OS X...

Hi KVS - I do but emulators are painfully slow - at least for me on my laptop. I may have to consider it if nothing else develops in the future. Thanks for responding so promptly.

GoCanes Aug 31, 2004 10:36 am

Can someone explain how to read the output on the screen???

Academic Aug 31, 2004 12:22 pm

The output is fairly self-explanatory. It shows the Airline and flight number, then originating airport, departure time, arrival airport and arrival time, class of aircraft and number of stops. The availability listing shows the number of seats available in eac fare class, J = Business, etc. 9 is the maximum number shown, but more than 9 might be available in that class. The ordering is from most to least expensive, so you'll often see L sold out, but lots of B or Y available. For AC and most of us here, the most class is C, because that is the upgrade inventory.

GJS - yow Sep 7, 2004 11:56 am

Thanks so much for this tool!
I have already used it several times to plan flight routings so that there will be sufficient seats for upgrading, and have successfully used my certs on all of them.

Question for KVS: If I install an upgrade, will I need to request a new registration code from you?

KVS Sep 7, 2004 12:53 pm

No, your existing code will continue to work even if you upgrade (as long as it is the same system that you are installing it on).

Difficulty checking award ticket availabilty

Using the terrific KVS Availability Tool (thanks so much, KVS), I am trying to check the availability of F and C/J awards on NZ. Using version 1.64, my fellow FTer, taupo, is able to do this. I, however, using version 1.2.9 am not.

Does anyone have experience with this?

It is likely that the NZ award classes you want are not available through ITN.

"1.64" is the current version of the "other" tool by smile67, which is also being referred to as "the tool" on FT :)

Take a look at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9565

dhuey Sep 13, 2004 6:15 pm

Thanks for clearing that up for me, KVS. I'll still be using your app. for other purposes, and I thank you for offering it to us FTers.
