I don't use KVS, but even I could follow the instructions on the last page or two. According to the PDF, the sitecode is floridaatlantic and the password key is flatlantic.

So does lorrainetravel/demo not work any more then? |

Ok. Since I only followed the pdf, I'm guessing you mean that the site id is marathoncorporate.

marathoncorporate and lorrainetravel are examples of site codes not site IDs. The site ID and password you quote above are used to establish an account that can then be used with a valid site code.

So whatever with the mighty KVS do when Florida Atlantic University decides to shut off this access?
By the way, I really dug it that when I disparaged this GTC garbage, KVS took the opportunity to try to bury my post with a bunch of replies to "KVS is the best!" posts. |

In my seventh year as a KVS user I am dismayed to read so many recent negative postings here about something that, for me, has long been a reliable and very useful tool.
What I’ve seen in that time is access methods come and go and lots of new features added while the price remained unchanged. There was always discussion about where the data came from and comments to the effect that much of it could be accessed for free if you knew where to look. I took the view that for the benefits that KVS Tool provided me it was well worth the annual cost – certainly when balanced against the savings in time and money and for the convenience. Availability is the prime function but I also use a whole host of other features such as checking visa requirements, award availability, timetables, fares and flight arrivals. As soon as the GTC Availability access method was introduced, I took the trouble to find out how to sign up for it and I’ll admit it wasn’t that easy. The problem is that after the (probably totally unexpected) decommissioning of two other search methods in the short space of some two weeks, for the moment suddenly GTC is all that’s left. From what I have seen in the past, KVS will introduce new facilities and methods as soon as they become practical. Meanwhile those making adverse comments are not helping the situation. I for one will be patient and supportive in the hope / expectation that KVS Tool will continue to provide what I need. |

More precisely, the KVS Tool is a specialized web browser.
As is the case with other web browsers, it can be used to view information from various websites on the World Wide Web. However, over time, some websites (or certain parts thereof) may cease to exist. It would be impossible for anyone to guarantee that a particular website will continue to exist forever. However, as a courtesy to our Members, we are able to suggest an alternative website, which has comparable functionality and is compatible with the KVS Tool. KVS, your answers to a selective subset of posts are disingenuous. You are nearly the only one on this thread pretending that the events of the past week are anything short of a massive devaluation of your tool. This charade is a slap in the face to longtime subscribers, especially those (such as myself) who have been champions of your service in the past. This whole thing would sit much better with a little bit of humility and candor on your part. Instead, we are faced with smugness and hubris. Will you be honoring requests for prorated subscription refunds? (And will you be selecting this question as to one that merits a reply from you?!) Please answer my query here. I don't appreciate private messages asking me to redact my postings to FT. |

I took the view that for the benefits that KVS Tool provided me it was well worth the annual cost KVS got sufficiently rattled by criticism/questions from people who'd understood what was going on for some time (some of whom have contributed to this thread) to make a rather unwise move (from his point of view): he started a discussion on milepoint. The key points were summarised in this post.) The thread was quite enlightening until Randy Petersen stamped on it. What I felt then still applies: If you buy an iPhone from a stranger in a bar, or DVDs at a street stall far from home, you shouldn't be too surprised to discover that what you've purchased isn't fully above board. Similarly, people who download 'warez' software or trade passwords are aware of what they're doing. KVS is different, in that most users don't have a clue what's going on. |
