Automatic Award searches

If I join at Platinum level is it possible for me to set the system to look for award availability on a periodic basis (such as daily) and have an automatic email sent to me when something comes open?

No. ExpertFlyer is a more effective solution for something that checks and emails you when inventory becomes available.

Yes - I just had that experience with LH inventory - previously (about 9 months ago) it wasn't working too well, but this time it came through on a heavily-booked flight, and I could grab the seat immediately on LH's website....

AFAIK, ExpertFlyer does not support several Skyteam and partners airlines as:
Aeroflot, Air Europa, China Southern, Copa, Korean air, Avianca, Bangkok airways, City jet, Conair, Kingfisher, TwinJet, and Ukraine international...

...but KVS should implement that kind of automated e-mail for available class.
Nobody is perfect, as we say in France:)

Randy Petersen's MileageManager does this as well.

Like ExpertFlyer it is not as comprehensive as KVS, but does offer nightly searches and emails changes in availability.

Hello,

As a huge fan of KVS, I've been recently working on a complex award itinerary. In doing so, I find that I'm doing some tasks over and over again, so I figured I'd toss my requests in the ring for future consideration. I realize of course that some of these may be a bit like asking for the moon, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

Also, you'll note that kinda build on each other:

1) Within 'Saved itineraries' - the ability to set whether or not that particular saved item is for general availability or awards/upgrade, perhaps just using whatever view is present at the time it was added is one way to do it.

2) Within Saved Itins - the ability to specify a specific flight - i.e. SQ232, as opposed to a city pair. The idea being I'm trying to watch for availability on a certain flight, instead of the whole route. Perhaps when you click to add to an itin, it just watches that flight, or does some sort of filter based on your selection.

3) Within Saved Itins - Ability to create a full 'trip'. For now, I'm essentially adding a bunch of city pairs, that I execute individually. Of course, these are executing searches individually behind the scenes. But I'd LOVE to be able to press that little green button once and have it execute all 7 of my searches at once, and shows the results (using #2 above, showing just the flights I'm interested in).

4) Finally - the biggie - the ability to run KVS perhaps as a task item (or as a service), and have it check for availability on a schedule (say, every hour), and then alert me if something becomes available in the fare bucket I'm interested in (I currently use filters to make it easy to see). I would happily pay a bunch extra for this feature. Obviously there are probably some concerns here on multiple requests to service providers, etc - so some limits are reasonable (even once or twice a day would be awesome).

Thanks again for developing the app - and even more for just reading my suggestions, I appreciate it! If ya have any questions, feel free to post here or PM/e-mail me. Thanks!

It would be very useful if 'My Trips' would save the availability method of the search and also the # of pax.

Glad that you have been enjoying the Tool since 2006. As always, constructive suggestions are most welcome and I will address each of them below:

This is not something that can be done at the Saved Itineraries level, because availability is requested by route (city pair). It would, therefore, be more suitable as an extension of the Filtering functionality, although, connecting flights handling may be problematic...

Furthermore, there is currently no way to 'attach' Filter settings to the Saved Itineraries.

Your suggestion will, certainly, be noted. However, in the meantime, using the existing Filtering functionality, in most cases, you should not be seeing more than a few flights in the results anyway...

This is something that is actually already being considered. However, both of these requests have to do with batch functionality, which is currently not available in the KVS Tool for various technical, logistical and policy reasons.

In the meantime, Filters and keyboard shortcuts for checking adjacent dates are certainly the way-to-go.

Hope this helps and, once again, many thanks for your feedback.

This functionality will be implemented in the upcoming release.

Very cool, thanks! ^

mymiles2go Aug 21, 2009 11:02 pm

Indeed - thanks for the updates and explanations!

On the ones where the query is by route pair - what about essentially saving the filter along with it? So while you are still querying the backend for the city-pair, you are filtering the view for just that flight(s)? This filter could either be readily obvious to the end user, or hidden as a behind the scenes filter.

Just a thought...but thanks for all your work thus far!
